Airport Transportation in Nairobi

Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.

After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.

We arrange airport transportation in Nairobi from JKIA to hotels in the CBD and Westlands, homes and offices across the city, Wilson Airport for light-aircraft safari flights, and onward trips toward Lake Naivasha and the safari parks.

Nairobi Airport Transfers

Our Nairobi airport transfers start in the public arrivals area after customs, where your driver waits with a name board. Your flight is tracked, so the pickup follows your actual landing time, even when several long-haul flights arrive together in the evening.

Vehicles range from sedans for business travelers to vans for families and safari groups, and every Nairobi airport transfer goes door to door to your hotel, home or office. Going on to Lake Naivasha, the safari parks or the coast by road? Enter the address in the booking form: when a vehicle is available for that route, the price shows before you pay; if it does not, contact us before you fly.

Nairobi Airport Shuttle

Our Nairobi airport shuttle is a private van for your party only, leaving as soon as you are through arrivals instead of stopping at other hotels. It has room for suitcases and soft safari bags, which suits families and groups starting a safari or a connecting flight from Wilson Airport.

Landing at Nairobi Airport

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO), often called JKIA, is in Embakasi on the southeastern side of Nairobi and is the base of Kenya Airways. Terminal 1 is split into units: 1A for Kenya Airways and its SkyTeam partners, 1B and 1C for other international departures, 1D for domestic flights and 1E for international arrivals. Terminal 2 is a separate building used by low-cost, regional and charter flights.

International passengers clear immigration in the Terminal 1E arrivals area, where queues can pass 45 minutes when several long-haul flights land in the evening. After the baggage reclaim hall, use the green customs channel if you have nothing to declare and the red one if you do. The public arrivals area has ATMs, currency exchange counters and SIM card desks.

Nairobi is on East Africa Time (UTC+3) all year, with no daylight saving.

Entry requirements and local notes

Kenya eTA. Most visitors need a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), applied for online at etakenya.go.ke before departure. Citizens of East African Community countries and many other African nations are exempt.

Safari flights from Wilson. Light-aircraft flights to the Maasai Mara, Amboseli and Samburu leave from Wilson Airport, not JKIA. Bags are not checked through, so you collect them at JKIA and check in again at Wilson.

Kenyan shilling and M-Pesa. Kenya uses the Kenyan shilling. Airport bureaus change US dollars, euros and pounds, and M-Pesa mobile money is widely used.

Altitude. Nairobi and the airport sit high, at about 1,624 m above sea level.

Nairobi Airport Transportation FAQs

Where will my driver meet me at Nairobi Airport?

Your driver waits in the public arrivals area after customs, holding a name board, along with hotel representatives and safari guides.

How far is Nairobi Airport from the city center?

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is about 18 km southeast of central Nairobi. The drive to the CBD or Westlands usually takes 25 to 40 minutes on the Nairobi Expressway outside rush hour, and over an hour at peak times along Mombasa Road.

Is JKIA the same as Nairobi Airport?

Yes. JKIA is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi's international airport and the one this page serves. Wilson Airport is a separate, smaller airport in the city used for light-aircraft and safari flights.

Can you take me to Westlands or the CBD?

Yes. Enter your hotel or office address in Westlands, the CBD or elsewhere in Nairobi in the booking form and choose a vehicle for your party and luggage.

Can you take me from JKIA to Wilson Airport for a safari flight?

Yes. Enter Wilson Airport as your drop-off and give your onward flight time. Bags are not checked through, so you collect them at JKIA first and check in again at Wilson.

Can you take me to Lake Naivasha or the safari parks by road?

Road trips to Lake Naivasha or the parks are long journeys from Nairobi. Enter the address in the booking form: when a vehicle is available for that route, the price shows before you pay; if it does not, contact us before you fly.

Can you take me to Mombasa or Diani Beach by road?

Most travelers fly to Mombasa, Diani or Malindi from Terminal 1D. Would you rather go by road? Enter the address in the booking form: when a vehicle is available for that route, the price shows before you pay; if it does not, contact us before you fly.

Which terminal will I arrive at?

International passengers come out through Terminal 1E, and domestic flights use Terminal 1D. Terminal 2 is a separate building for low-cost, regional and charter flights, so give us your flight number when you book.

What if my flight lands in the evening when immigration is busy?

Immigration queues can pass 45 minutes when several long-haul flights land together in the evening. We track your flight, and your driver waits in the public arrivals area until you are through.

Should I buy transportation from agents inside the terminal?

You will see taxis and ride offers at arrivals, but booking ahead means a driver is already waiting with your name and the vehicle fits your group and luggage.

What happens if my flight is delayed or canceled?

We monitor the flight on your reservation, so a delay moves your pickup. If your flight number, date or airline changes, or the flight is canceled, tell customer service so we can update the booking.

Can I book a ride back to JKIA?

Yes. Book a pickup from your hotel to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and tell us your airline: Kenya Airways uses Terminal 1A for international flights, and other international airlines usually leave from 1B and 1C.

Do I need an eTA to enter Kenya?

Most visitors need a Kenya Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA), applied for online at etakenya.go.ke before departure. Citizens of East African Community countries and many other African nations are exempt.
