Kavala Alexander the Great International Airport (KVA), also called Megas Alexandros Airport, is the airport for Kavala and the island of Thassos in northeastern Greece. It sits near Chrysoupoli in the Nestos valley, east of Kavala, and is run by Fraport Greece. All flights use one terminal.
Aegean Airlines flies to Athens, and most international routes run only in summer, with Condor, Eurowings, Jet2, TUI, Smartwings, Austrian Airlines, Air Serbia and others bringing visitors mainly from Germany, the UK and Central Europe. Flights from Athens and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; if you come from outside the Schengen area, for example from the UK or Serbia, you go through passport control. The terminal is small, so arrival is usually quick, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers outside the arrivals exit.
Greece is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and switches to UTC+3 for daylight saving time from late March to late October.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Greece is in the Schengen area. Arrivals from outside it, for example from the UK or Serbia, go through passport control. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Thassos ferry. Thassos has no airport. Ferries to the island leave from Keramoti, which is much closer to the airport than Kavala; check the timetable and give us your sailing time when you book.
Seasonal flights. Most international routes run only in summer; outside that season, flights are mainly to Athens.
Euro and cash. Greece uses the euro; carry some cash for small purchases.
