Kefalonia International Airport (EFL), named after Anna Pollatou, is in the southwest of the island, near the capital, Argostoli. All flights use a single terminal, rebuilt by Fraport Greece with new check-in desks, security lanes and baggage carousels. There are no jet bridges, so you walk or take a bus from the plane.
Flights from Athens and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. Passengers from outside the Schengen area, as many summer visitors from the UK are, queue at passport control. On summer weekends, when several charter flights land together, the small terminal gets busy. Once you have your bags, pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the arrivals area.
Greece is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and switches to UTC+3 for daylight saving time from late March to late October.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Greece is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Large, mountainous island. Kefalonia's roads are winding, and Fiskardo and Assos in the north are a long ride from the airport, so plan your arrival day with that in mind.
Ferry connections. Ferries leave from Sami and Poros, including boats to Ithaca. Give us your sailing time when you book, so your drop-off fits it.
Euro and cash. Greece uses the euro; carry some cash for small purchases.
