Samui International Airport (USM) is in Bophut, on Koh Samui's northeast corner, and Bangkok Airways owns and runs it. Its open-air, thatched-roof terminals have no jet bridges: you leave the aircraft by the stairs and walk or ride an open-air shuttle to arrivals. Domestic and international flights use separate terminals about 50 m apart.
On an international flight you go through Thai immigration and customs in the International Terminal; domestic flights from Bangkok and other Thai airports have no passport checks. Baggage claim is small and quick, and you come out at the arrivals exit, where pre-booked drivers wait with name signs.
Thailand is on Indochina Time (UTC+7) all year, with no daylight saving time, and uses the baht.
Entry requirements and local notes
Visa-free stays. Since 15 September 2026 Thailand's visa exemption covers 60 countries and territories for 30 days of tourism; other nationalities need a visa. Check the rules for your passport before you fly.
Digital Arrival Card. Foreign visitors must complete the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) on the official immigration portal within 72 hours before arrival. Sites that charge a fee are not the government service.
No ride-hailing pickups. App-based ride services are not allowed to pick up at the airport, so arrange your ride before you land.
Vapes are banned. E-cigarettes and vapes are illegal in Thailand, so leave them at home.
