Recife/Guararapes – Gilberto Freyre International Airport (REC), usually called Guararapes or simply Recife Airport, sits in the south of Recife, close to the Boa Viagem beach district.
The airport has one passenger terminal, opened in 2004, for both domestic and international flights. On an international flight you clear Brazilian immigration and customs inside that terminal. Baggage claim is on the ground floor, and all passengers exit into the same arrivals area, so finding your driver is simple.
Recife is on UTC−3 all year, the same as Brasília Time, with no daylight saving time.
Brazil e-visa. Citizens of the United States, Canada and Australia have needed a Brazil e-visa since April 10, 2025. Many European and South American travelers can enter without one; check the rules for your passport before you fly.
Fernando de Noronha connections. Recife is a departure point for flights to Fernando de Noronha. If you are connecting, give us both flights so pickups match your real schedule.
Unlicensed drivers outside. People outside the terminal may offer rides. Walk past them to your driver holding your name sign.
Rainier mid-year. Recife is warm and humid all year, with a rainier season in the middle of the year; pack light clothes and a rain layer.
