Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), also known as AILA, stands at Punta Caucedo on the coast east of Santo Domingo, and Aerodom, part of VINCI Airports, runs it. Passengers use one terminal building with two wings, Terminal A and Terminal B, joined around a central atrium; a new terminal is under construction for 2028.
You clear Dominican immigration first, where officers scan your e-Ticket QR code and some travelers can use the automated Autogate lanes. Then you collect your bags from the carousel, where luggage carts are free, and pass customs into the arrivals area. Exchange desks, ATMs and phone company counters for local SIM cards are inside the terminal.
The Dominican Republic uses Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) all year, with no daylight saving time, so Santo Domingo matches US Eastern time in summer and is one hour ahead of it in winter.
Entry requirements and local notes
Dominican e-Ticket. Every traveler entering or leaving the Dominican Republic by air needs the free e-Ticket from eticket.migracion.gob.do, completed before airline check-in. It creates a QR code to show at immigration. The tourist card fee is included in most airfares, and visa rules depend on your nationality.
Decline the touts. Drivers often offer rides as passengers come out of arrivals. Go only with the driver named in your confirmation.
Colonial Zone streets. Streets in the Zona Colonial are narrow and Calle El Conde is pedestrian, so give your full address; your driver stops at the nearest point a car can reach.
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. This page is for Las Américas International Airport (SDQ), the main airport of the Dominican capital. Landing at Punta Cana instead? See our Punta Cana airport transportation page.
