Nea Anchialos National Airport (VOL), also called Central Greece Airport, is the airport for Volos and the Pelion peninsula in Thessaly. It sits near the town of Nea Anchialos, southwest of Volos, beside the E75 motorway. It is a very small airport with a single terminal, open to civil flights since 1991.
All routes are seasonal: Eurowings to Düsseldorf, Ryanair to Charleroi (Brussels), Smartwings to Brno and Sky Express to Heraklion, with no scheduled flights to Athens or Thessaloniki. Flights from Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; if you come from outside the Schengen area, you go through passport control. With few flights, arrival is quick, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers outside the arrivals exit.
Greece is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and switches to UTC+3 for daylight saving time from late March to late October.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Greece is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Few flights. The airport has only a handful of seasonal flights and limited services, so arrange your ride before you fly.
Pelion village addresses. Many Pelion guesthouses and houses sit on steep lanes and stone paths, so give the guesthouse name, the village and a map pin; your driver stops at the nearest point a car can reach.
Euro and cash. Greece uses the euro; carry some cash for small purchases.
