Hamad International Airport (DOH) is the international airport serving Doha, the capital of Qatar. It is the hub of Qatar Airways, which links Doha with cities across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas, and many passengers pass through it on connecting itineraries. Other airlines fly here from the Gulf, the Indian subcontinent, Turkey, East Africa and Southeast Asia, including flydubai, Gulf Air, IndiGo, Saudia and Turkish Airlines.
Passengers use one main terminal, with departure gates spread across Concourses A to E. The airport sits on the eastern edge of Doha, about 5 km east of the old Doha International Airport, which stopped handling scheduled passenger flights in May 2014.
The Doha Metro Red Line has its own station at the terminal and runs north into the city, with an interchange at Msheireb for the Green and Gold lines. By road, West Bay is about 20 km away and Souq Waqif and the Corniche about 18 km, usually a 20 to 30 minute drive outside rush hours.
From the airport, travelers head to West Bay, Msheireb Downtown Doha, Souq Waqif, The Pearl-Qatar, Katara Cultural Village and Lusail, or further south to Al Wakrah.

After you leave the aircraft, follow the Arrivals signs to immigration. Many nationalities can enter Qatar without a visa arranged in advance, while others must apply before travel through the Hayya platform; your passport should be valid for at least six months. If you are connecting to another flight, follow the Transfer signs instead and stay airside.
Collect your bags in the baggage reclaim hall, then pass through customs into the Arrivals Hall. Official Karwa taxis wait at the Taxi Pavilion at the left end of the Arrivals Hall, and Karwa buses leave from the Bus Pavilion to the right. Uber and other authorized ride-hailing services pick up inside the multi-level car park, reached from Arrivals through Gate 3, not at the terminal curb. The Doha Metro station is linked to the terminal and signposted from Arrivals. Use the official taxi stand or a pre-arranged pickup rather than accepting rides offered inside the hall.
Qatar is on Arabia Standard Time (UTC+3) all year, the currency is the Qatari riyal (QAR), and summers are very hot and humid.
The Doha Metro suits light travelers heading to West Bay or Msheireb during its operating hours, while taxis and pre-booked transfers work around the clock.
Karwa taxis run 24 hours from the Taxi Pavilion at the left end of the Arrivals Hall and accept card and mobile payments. The drive to West Bay usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, longer at weekday rush hours.
The Hamad International Airport T1 station on the Red Line connects the terminal with Msheireb, West Bay and Lusail. The metro does not run 24 hours and opens later on Fridays, so check first and last train times before you land.
Uber, Badrgo and Ryde are authorized to pick up at the airport from a designated area inside the multi-level car park. Expect a short walk with your luggage from Arrivals through Gate 3.
Mowasalat (Karwa) buses leave from the Bus Pavilion to the right of the Arrivals Hall, with route 757 to Al Mansoura and other routes to Al Thumama and the Industrial Area. Buses are slower and less convenient with large bags.
Pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the Arrivals Hall and drive directly to hotels in West Bay, The Pearl-Qatar, Lusail or elsewhere. This avoids queues and suits families or groups with luggage.

Hamad International Airport is about 18 km from Souq Waqif and the Corniche and about 20 km from West Bay. The drive usually takes 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hours, which run roughly 07:00 to 09:30 and 16:00 to 19:00 on weekdays, when you should allow extra time. The Pearl-Qatar is about 22 km away and Lusail about 30 to 35 km.
Yes. Hamad International Airport sits on the eastern edge of Doha, about 5 km east of the old Doha International Airport. It is the only airport in Qatar with scheduled passenger flights, and it is connected to the city by expressway and by the Red Line of the Doha Metro, which has its own station at the terminal.
No. Doha International Airport (DIA) stopped handling scheduled commercial flights when all airlines moved to Hamad International Airport on 27 May 2014. It reopened temporarily for some airlines during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and closed to scheduled flights again afterward. Today it is used for state, military, business aviation and training flights, so check that your ticket shows the code DOH.
Hamad International Airport has one passenger terminal, used for both arrivals and departures. Gates are spread across Concourses A, B, C, D and E, all inside the same building, so arriving and departing passengers share one set of check-in, immigration and baggage facilities. Because there is only one terminal, you do not need to change buildings when you connect between flights at Doha.
Qatar Airways is the main airline at Hamad International Airport and uses it as its hub for flights across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and the Americas. Other airlines include flydubai, Air Arabia, Gulf Air, Saudia, flynas, Kuwait Airways, Oman Air, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, IndiGo, Air India, EgyptAir and Ethiopian Airlines. All of them use the same terminal.
Official Karwa taxis wait at the Taxi Pavilion at the left end of the Arrivals Hall, signposted Taxi, and operate 24 hours a day. Airport taxis accept cashless payment, including Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Travelers with reduced mobility can contact the operator, Mowasalat, in advance to arrange a suitable vehicle for the trip into Doha.
Yes. The Hamad International Airport T1 station on the Doha Metro Red Line is linked to the terminal. The Red Line runs north through Doha to Msheireb, where you can change to the Green and Gold lines, and on to West Bay and Lusail. The metro does not run 24 hours and starts later on Fridays, so check first and last train times.
Yes. Uber, Badrgo and Ryde are authorized to pick up passengers at Hamad International Airport. Pickups take place in a designated area inside the multi-level car park rather than at the Arrivals Hall curb. Leave Arrivals through Gate 3, cross the service road into the car park and follow the signs to the ride-hailing pickup zone.
It depends on your nationality. Citizens of many countries can enter Qatar visa-free for 30 or 90 days, while others must apply and be approved through the Hayya platform before flying. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from arrival, and you may be asked for a return or onward ticket. Check current rules with Qatar's Ministry of Interior or Hayya before you travel.
West Bay is about 20 km from Hamad International Airport, usually a 20 to 30 minute drive by taxi or transfer outside rush hours. The Red Line metro also serves West Bay at the West Bay QatarEnergy station. The Pearl-Qatar is about 22 km away, around 25 to 35 minutes by road, and is easiest to reach by taxi, rideshare or private transfer.
Doha uses Arabia Standard Time, UTC+3, all year, with no daylight saving time. The currency is the Qatari riyal (QAR), and cards are widely accepted, including in official airport taxis. The climate is hot and dry most of the year, with very hot and humid summers, so plan for high temperatures if you arrive between June and September.
Hamad International Airport is operated by Qatar Airways and owned by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. It handled about 54.3 million passengers in 2025, up about 3 percent on the previous year, with nearly 283,000 aircraft movements. It has two parallel runways, 4,850 m and 4,250 m long, and serves as the hub of Qatar Airways.
Yes. Qatar closed its airspace on 28 February 2026 and scheduled flights at Hamad International Airport were suspended. Qatar Airways restarted phased commercial operations from 13 March 2026, and on 20 April 2026 the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority allowed foreign airlines to resume flights gradually. Check your flight status with your airline before traveling.
