Also known as: Okinawa Airport, Okinawa Naha Airport, Naha International Airport.
OKA · ROAH · Naha
Naha Airport (OKA) is the main airport for Okinawa, Japan's southernmost prefecture. It sits on the coast at the edge of Naha, about 4 km (2.5 miles) west of Naha City Hall, and is open 24 hours. In 2024 it handled about 21.7 million passengers.
Japan Transocean Air and Ryukyu Air Commuter, both based here, link Naha with the outer islands, including Ishigaki, Miyako, Kumejima and Yonaguni. ANA, Japan Airlines, Peach, Solaseed Air and Skymark connect Okinawa with Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Sapporo and other Japanese cities. International flights go to Taiwan, South Korea, Hong Kong, mainland China, Thailand and Singapore.
The airport has a domestic terminal and an international terminal, joined since 2019 by a connecting building with shops and restaurants. A second runway opened in 2020. The airport shares its runways with the Japan Air Self-Defense Force's Naha Air Base.
From the airport, most travelers head into Naha and Kokusai-dōri, north to the beach resorts and hotels along the west coast, to the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and the Motobu Peninsula, or on to the outer islands.

International flights arrive at the International Terminal, where you go through quarantine, immigration (foreign visitors have their fingerprints and photo taken) and customs. Filling in your details on Visit Japan Web before you fly can speed things up. Domestic flights from mainland Japan and the outer islands arrive at the Domestic Terminal with no checks.
Once you have your bags, follow the signs for the monorail, buses, taxis and rental cars. The Yui Rail monorail runs from Naha Airport Station into central Naha, including the Kokusai-dōri area, and on to Urasoe. Buses serve many parts of Okinawa Island, including the resort areas. Many visitors rent a car, as public transport to the northern resorts is limited. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you in the arrivals lobby.
Okinawa has a subtropical climate, and typhoons can disrupt flights, mainly from summer to autumn. Japan is on Japan Standard Time (UTC+9) all year and uses the yen.
The monorail is the easy way into Naha; for resorts up the west coast and the north, a pre-booked car, rental car or bus is needed.

Buses run from the airport to many parts of Okinawa Island, including resort areas. Cheap, but slow over longer distances.
Rental companies serve the airport, a popular choice for exploring the island at your own pace.
