Passenger Terminal
The single terminal handles every flight, with arrivals and baggage claim on the ground floor and check-in, security and gates on the first floor. Flights to the United States board after US preclearance inside the terminal.
Also known as: SNN Airport, Shannon International Airport.
SNN · EINN · Shannon
Shannon Airport (SNN) is the international airport for the west of Ireland, in Shannon, County Clare, on the Shannon Estuary. It serves Limerick, Ennis and the rest of County Clare, and many travelers continue to Galway, the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren. The airport is about 25 km (16 miles) west of Limerick and 20 km (12 miles) south of Ennis, at the end of the N19, which links to the M18 highway between Limerick and Galway.
Ryanair flies the most routes, to cities across the UK and Europe and to sun destinations in Spain and Portugal. Aer Lingus links Shannon with London Heathrow, Boston and New York JFK, while United and Delta add flights to Chicago O'Hare and New York in summer, and Discover Airlines flies to Frankfurt in season. The airport handled more than 2.3 million passengers in 2025.
All flights use one terminal: arrivals and baggage claim are on the ground floor, and check-in, security and departures on the first floor. Shannon is one of the few airports outside North America with full US preclearance, so passengers flying to the United States clear US immigration and customs before they board.

Ireland is in the EU but not in the Schengen area, so every international flight arrives through Irish passport control, where an immigration officer checks your passport and any visa and decides how long you may stay. Check whether you need an Irish visa for your nationality before you fly.
Shannon has one terminal, so there is no terminal to choose. Arrivals and baggage claim are on the ground floor: collect your bags, walk through customs and you come out in the arrivals hall, where car rental desks and an ATM are close by.
Bus Éireann buses leave from outside the terminal: route 343 runs to Shannon town and Limerick around the clock, route 330 goes to Ennis, and Expressway route 51 links the airport with Limerick, Ennis and Galway. Taxis wait at the taxi stand outside the terminal, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the arrivals hall.
Ireland uses the euro, drives on the left and is on GMT, or Irish Standard Time in summer.
Buses are the cheapest way to Limerick and Ennis; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier with luggage, late at night or for addresses in rural Clare.
Bus Éireann route 343 runs 24 hours a day from the airport through Shannon town to Limerick's Colbert Station, every 20 to 30 minutes on weekdays and hourly overnight. It makes local stops on the way.
Bus Éireann route 330 runs hourly from early morning to midnight between the airport and Ennis, the county town of Clare.
Expressway route 51 between Cork and Galway calls at the airport, with direct buses north to Ennis and Galway and south to Limerick and Cork. It suits travelers heading for Galway without a car.
Taxis wait at the taxi stand outside the terminal and go door to door to Shannon, Limerick and Ennis. Waits can be longer late at night, so some travelers book ahead.
Several car rental companies have desks in the arrivals hall. A car suits touring the Wild Atlantic Way, but remember that Ireland drives on the left and many rural roads are narrow.
A pre-booked car meets you in the arrivals hall, useful for families, groups, late arrivals and trips to hotels and rentals around County Clare.

Shannon Airport has one passenger terminal. Arrivals and baggage claim are on the ground floor, and check-in, security and the departure gates are on the first floor. The US preclearance facility is inside the same building, so there is never a terminal to choose when you arrive or depart.
US preclearance lets passengers flying from Shannon to the United States clear US immigration and customs in Ireland before they board. They arrive in the US as domestic passengers and walk straight out at their destination. Allow extra time at Shannon for preclearance, especially on busy summer mornings.
Ryanair flies the most routes from Shannon, to the UK and cities across Europe. Aer Lingus serves London Heathrow, Boston and New York JFK, United flies to Newark and, in summer, Chicago O'Hare, Delta adds summer flights to New York JFK, and Discover Airlines flies to Frankfurt in season.
You need a valid passport and, depending on your nationality, an Irish visa.
