About Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport

Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport (TLL) is the international airport serving Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, and the country's main gateway by air. airBaltic, which counts Tallinn as one of its home bases, flies from here to cities across Europe, alongside Ryanair, Finnair, Lufthansa, SAS, LOT Polish Airlines, Swiss, Turkish Airlines, Wizz Air and Norwegian. Seasonal and charter flights add leisure routes to Turkey, Egypt, Greece and the Mediterranean, and NyxAir links Tallinn with the Estonian islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa.

All flights use one passenger terminal, with Schengen and non-Schengen gates in the same building.

The airport sits on the eastern shore of Lake Ülemiste, about 4 to 5 km southeast of the city center, and is usually a 15 to 20 minute drive from the Old Town. Tram lines T2 and T4 stop at the terminal and run into central Tallinn, and Ülemiste railway station and the Ülemiste City business district are close by.

From the airport, travelers head to Tallinn Old Town, the Rotermann Quarter, Kadriorg, Kalamaja and Telliskivi, the Old City Harbour for ferries to Helsinki and Stockholm, Pirita on the coast, and further afield to Pärnu and Tartu.

Arrival tips for Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport

If you arrive from a Schengen country, there is no passport control: you walk straight to baggage claim. Flights from outside the Schengen Area, such as from the United Kingdom, Turkey or Egypt, go through passport control run by the Police and Border Guard Board. Non-EU travelers on short stays are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), with a facial image and fingerprints, while eligible EU and Schengen citizens aged 12 or over can use the e-gates.

Collect your bags in the baggage claim area, pass customs and continue into the Arrivals hall, where you will find a currency exchange counter and an R-Kiosk that sells public transport cards. Partner taxis wait right in front of the terminal. For trams T2 and T4 and city buses, follow the signs to the public transport center at the north (city) end of the terminal, reached by escalator, lift and walkway. Taxis from companies that are not airport partners only stop in the Kiss&Fly area of the parking house.

Estonia uses the euro and is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2), moving to UTC+3 in summer.

Ground transportation

Trams T2 and T4 suit light travelers heading into central Tallinn, while taxis and pre-booked transfers are easiest with luggage or late at night.

  • Tram from Tallinn Airport

Lines T2 (to the Old City Harbour and Kopli) and T4 (to Tondi) leave from the public transport center at the north end of the terminal about every 10 minutes, reaching the city center in roughly 15 to 20 minutes. Service resumed on 1 August 2026 after construction work.

  • City buses 2, 47, 49 and 65

Buses 47, 49 and 65 start at the public transport center, and bus 2 toward the city center stops in front of the parking area on Tartu highway. Contactless bank cards, QR tickets and the Ühiskaart card are accepted; buses are slower with large bags.

  • Taxi and Bolt

Partner taxis wait in front of the terminal, and Bolt, Uber and Forus are official partners. The ride to the Old Town usually takes 15 to 20 minutes; rates are not capped, so ask for an estimate first.

  • Lux Express coach to Tartu

All Lux Express coaches entering Tallinn on Tartu highway stop at the airport, on the Tallinn–Tartu and Tallinn–Tartu–Võru routes. Long-distance stops have moved temporarily during construction, so follow the terminal signs.

  • Car rental

Rental companies serve the airport, which is reached by road from the E263 Tartu highway. A rental car suits travelers heading on to Pärnu, Tartu or the countryside.

  • Private transfer

Pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the Arrivals hall after customs and drive directly to hotels in the Old Town, the city center, the harbor area or elsewhere in Estonia. It suits families and groups with luggage.
