Bolzano Airport (BZO) sits on the southern edge of Bolzano, the capital of South Tyrol, and is the home base of SkyAlps. Passengers use one small terminal for arrivals and departures, so the walk from the aircraft to baggage claim is short.
Flights from other Schengen countries, such as Germany, Denmark or Poland, arrive without passport control. Flights from London Gatwick and other airports outside the Schengen area go through passport control first. Collect your bags in the baggage claim area, then walk through customs into the arrivals area, where signs are in Italian and German.
Bolzano is on Central European Time (UTC+1), and on summer time (UTC+2) from late March to late October.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Italy is in the Schengen area. EU and Schengen citizens need a valid ID card or passport; other travelers need a passport and, depending on nationality, a visa.
Entry/Exit System. Travelers from outside the EU arriving on flights from outside the Schengen area, such as London, are registered in the EU's Entry/Exit System with fingerprints and a photo on their first crossing.
Two languages. South Tyrol is bilingual, so give your hotel's address in Italian or German: Bozen for Bolzano, Meran for Merano, Gröden for Val Gardena, St. Ulrich for Ortisei.
