Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), the airport for Nha Trang, stands on the Cam Ranh peninsula in Khanh Hoa province. It has two terminals side by side: Terminal T2 for international flights and Terminal T1 for domestic flights. Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air use both, so check which one your flight arrives at.
At Terminal T2 you pass immigration with your passport and e-visa or visa exemption, collect your bags at the carousel shown for your flight, then go through the customs checkpoint into the public arrival area, where you will find ATMs, currency exchange and SIM card desks. Domestic arrivals at Terminal T1 skip immigration and customs.
Vietnam is on Indochina Time (UTC+7) all year, with no daylight saving time, and uses the Vietnamese dong (VND).
E-visa or exemption. Most visitors, including US citizens, need a Vietnam e-visa from the official portal evisa.gov.vn, valid for up to 90 days. Some nationalities, including several European countries, Japan and South Korea, can enter visa-free for a limited stay, so check the rules for your passport before you fly.
Passport validity. Your passport should be valid for six months beyond your stay, with at least one blank page.
Guest registration. Hotels and hosts in Vietnam must register foreign guests with the local police, so keep your passport handy at check-in, including at apartments and vacation rentals.
Tet holiday. Around the Lunar New Year (Tet), in January or February, flights, hotels and roads are at their busiest, so book your transfer early and allow extra time for your ride back to the airport.
