Owen Roberts International Airport (GCM), also called Grand Cayman airport, stands on the edge of George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands, and the Cayman Islands Airports Authority runs it. All flights use one terminal, expanded and reopened in 2019, so there is no terminal to choose.
You go through immigration first, then collect your bags at baggage claim and pass customs. Visitors with nothing to declare and within their duty-free allowance generally do not need to fill in a customs card. You then walk out to the arrivals greeting area in front of the terminal, where taxis are dispatched and pre-booked drivers wait.
The Cayman Islands are on UTC-5 all year, with no daylight saving time, so the clock matches US Eastern time in winter and is an hour behind it in summer. The local currency is the Cayman Islands dollar, and US dollars are widely accepted.
Entry requirements and local notes
Passport and visa. Bring a passport valid beyond your return date and your return or onward ticket. Visitors from some countries need a Cayman Islands visa, so check the rules for your nationality before you fly.
Customs and cannabis. Visitors within their duty-free allowance with nothing to declare generally need no customs card. Cannabis in every form, including CBD and THC products, is prohibited, even where it is legal at home.
Driving on the left. Traffic in the Cayman Islands drives on the left, and roundabouts are common between the airport, George Town and Seven Mile Beach.
Dollars. Prices are often shown in both Cayman Islands dollars and US dollars, and change is usually given in local currency.
