Kalamata International Airport (KLX), named after Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos, is the airport for Kalamata and the southern Peloponnese. It sits between Kalamata and Messini, west of the city, and shares its airfield with a Hellenic Air Force base. All flights use one terminal, built in 1991.
Aegean Airlines flies year-round to Thessaloniki and seasonally to Athens, Heraklion, Munich and Stockholm, and most international routes run only in summer. Flights from Athens and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; if you come from outside the Schengen area, for example from the UK or Switzerland, you queue at passport control. The terminal is small, so arrival is usually quick, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers outside the arrivals exit.
Greece is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and switches to UTC+3 for daylight saving time from late March to late October.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Greece is in the Schengen area. Arrivals from outside it, including the UK, go through passport control. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Seasonal flights. Most routes to Kalamata run only in summer. Outside that season, check your connection before you plan your arrival day.
Villa addresses. Many villas in Messinia and the Mani have no street number, so give the villa name, the village and a map pin when you book.
Euro and cash. Greece uses the euro; carry some cash for small purchases.
