About Kalamata International Airport

Kalamata International Airport "Captain Vassilis Constantakopoulos" (KLX) is the airport for Kalamata and the southern Peloponnese, in Greece. It sits between Kalamata and Messini, on the EO82 road, a short drive west of the city. It is a small airport, with about 280,000 passengers in 2018, the latest year the source gives.

Aegean Airlines has a base here, flying year-round to Thessaloniki and seasonally to Athens, Heraklion, Munich and Stockholm. In summer, Condor, easyJet, Jet2, Ryanair, Wizz Air and others add flights from Germany, the UK, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France and Scandinavia.

All flights use one terminal, built in 1991 on the east side of the runway. The airfield is shared with a Hellenic Air Force base and training center.

From the airport, most visitors head into Kalamata, west to Pylos, Costa Navarino and the Messinian coast, south to Kardamyli, Stoupa and the Mani peninsula, or to Ancient Messene.

Arrival tips for Kalamata International Airport

All flights arrive at the single terminal. Flights from Athens and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. If you come from outside the Schengen area, for example from the UK or Switzerland, you queue at passport control, where non-EU visitors are registered in the EU's Entry/Exit System. The terminal is small, so arrival is usually quick.

Once you have your bags, head outside. Buses run between the airport and Kalamata in about 20–25 minutes, from a stop near the terminal, and taxis are available. There is no train. Public transport to the rest of the region is limited, so most visitors heading to Pylos, Costa Navarino or the Mani use a taxi, a pre-booked car or a rental car. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you outside arrivals.

Greece is on Eastern European Time (EET), two hours ahead of the UK, and uses the euro.
