Kos International Airport Ippokratis (KGS), named after Hippocrates, is in the middle of the island near the village of Antimachia. All flights use a single terminal, opened in 1980 and later expanded, and Fraport Greece runs the airport.
Flights from Athens and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. Passengers from outside the Schengen area, as many summer visitors from the UK are, queue at passport control. On summer weekends, when many charter flights land close together, the terminal gets busy. Once you have your bags, head outside, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers.
Greece is on Eastern European Time (UTC+2) and switches to UTC+3 for daylight saving time from late March to late October.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Greece is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Mid-island airport. The airport is in the middle of the island, so Kos Town and the resorts on the northeast coast are a longer ride than Kardamena or Mastichari.
Ferry connections. Ferries to Kalymnos leave from Mastichari and from Kos Town harbor. Give us your sailing time when you book, so your drop-off fits it.
Euro and cash. Greece uses the euro; carry some cash for small purchases.
