Kahului Airport (OGG), known to most travelers as Maui airport, sits on the island's north shore beside the town of Kahului and is run by the Hawaii Department of Transportation. All jet flights, interisland, from the US mainland and from Canada, use one main terminal, with gates 1 to 39 above and ticketing, agricultural inspection and baggage claim on the ground level.
Most arrivals are domestic, so there is no passport control: you walk from the gate down to baggage claim, collect your bags and meet your driver there. Flights from Canada normally clear US border inspection at preclearance before departure.
Hawaii is on Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (UTC-10) all year, with no daylight saving time, and uses the US dollar.
Entry requirements and local notes
Agriculture declaration. Arriving from the US mainland, every traveler must complete Hawaii's Plants and Animals Declaration, even with nothing to declare. It is now submitted online through Akamai Arrival, up to five days before your flight or during it.
ESTA or visa. Visitors from abroad need a passport and an ESTA or US visa. Flights from Canada clear US preclearance before departure, so have your documents ready there.
Check your airport code. Maui also has two small commuter airports, Kapalua (JHM) and Hana (HNM). This page is for Kahului Airport (OGG), where nearly all flights land.
Agricultural inspection going home. Bags on flights to the US mainland go through a USDA agricultural inspection before check-in at Kahului, so allow time for it when you plan your ride back to the airport.
