Main Terminal
The single terminal for all jet flights, interisland, US mainland and Canada, with ticketing, agricultural inspection and baggage claim on the ground level. Gates 1 to 16 are in the south area and gates 17 to 39 in the north area.
Also known as: Maui Airport, OGG Airport, Maui International Airport. Formerly Naval Air Station Kahului.
OGG · PHOG · Kahului
Kahului Airport (OGG) is the main airport for the island of Maui in Hawaii, USA, and most visitors to the island land here. It stands on Maui's north shore, just east of the town of Kahului, in the flat central valley between the West Maui Mountains and Haleakala.
Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest link Kahului with Honolulu, Kona, Hilo and Lihue, while Alaska, American, Delta, United, Hawaiian and Southwest fly nonstop to cities on the US mainland such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix, Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver. Air Canada and WestJet add flights from Vancouver and Calgary. Mokulele Airlines runs small commuter flights to Molokai, Lanai, Hana and Kona. The airport handled about 7.1 million passengers in 2025.
All jet flights use one main terminal, with ticketing, agricultural inspection and baggage claim on the ground level and gates 1 to 39 along the concourse. A consolidated rental car facility, opened in 2019, is linked to the terminal by tram.
From the airport, travelers head to Kahului and Wailuku nearby, south to the beach resorts of Kihei, Wailea and Makena, west to Kaanapali, Napili and Kapalua, or up the slopes to Paia, Makawao and Kula on the way to Haleakala.

Most flights to Kahului are domestic, from Honolulu, the other islands or the US mainland, so there is no passport control on arrival. If you fly in from the mainland, complete Hawaii's Plants and Animals Declaration online through Akamai Arrival before you land; it is required even if you have nothing to declare. Flights from Canada normally clear US border inspection at preclearance before departure, so have your ESTA or US visa ready there.
After you leave the aircraft, follow the signs down to baggage claim on the ground level of the main terminal. Baggage carts are available in the claim area.
Taxis wait in front of the baggage claim area, and the SpeediShuttle counter is inside baggage claim. For a rental car, follow the signs to the tram, which runs to the consolidated rental car facility. For Uber or Lyft, follow the airport signs to the rideshare pickup zone, and pre-booked drivers usually meet passengers at baggage claim.
Hawaii is on Hawaii-Aleutian Standard Time (UTC-10) all year, with no daylight saving time.
Most visitors rent a car or pre-book a ride, since Maui's resorts are spread around the island and public transit is limited.
A tram links the terminal with the consolidated rental car facility, where the main companies have their counters. A car is the most flexible way to explore, but you drive and park yourself.
Taxis, managed by SpeediShuttle, wait in front of the baggage claim area and go door to door to Kihei, Wailea or West Maui. Lines can build when several flights land together.
The shuttle counter is in baggage claim, and shared shuttles run to the main resort areas. Shared rides may stop at other hotels on the way.
Follow the airport signs to the rideshare pickup zone. Availability can thin out late at night and for trips to far corners of the island.
Route 35 links the airport with Paia and Haiku, and Route 40 with Pukalani and Makawao, both via Kahului. The cheapest option, but with limited luggage space and connections needed for the resort areas.
A pre-booked car or van meets you at baggage claim and drives straight to your resort, condo or vacation rental, which suits families, groups and late arrivals.

Yes. Kahului Airport, code OGG, is the airport most people mean by Maui airport, and nearly every flight to Maui lands there. The island also has two small airports, Kapalua (JHM) in West Maui and Hana (HNM) on the east coast, which handle only commuter flights, so check the code on your ticket.
OGG is the IATA code for Kahului Airport. It is widely said to honor Bertram J. Hogg, a Hawaiian Airlines pilot, rather than standing for the airport's name. Airlines, baggage tags and booking sites use OGG, while the ICAO code used by pilots and air traffic control is PHOG.
Kihei is about 10 miles (16 km) south of the airport and Wailea about 17 miles (27 km), usually a 25 to 40 minute drive by the Mokulele Highway and Piilani Highway. Traffic around Kahului at rush hour and resort check-in times can add to that.
Kaanapali is about 27 miles (43 km) west of the airport, roughly 45 minutes to an hour by the Honoapiilani Highway along the coast, and Kapalua a little farther. The road is mostly a single lane each way past the pali cliffs, so allow extra time when traffic is heavy.
Kahului has one main terminal for all jet flights, with gates 1 to 16 in the south area and gates 17 to 39 in the north area. Ticketing, agricultural inspection and baggage claim are on the ground level. Mokulele's commuter flights use a small separate commuter terminal, and every other airline arrives at the same baggage claim.
Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest fly between Kahului and Honolulu and the other islands, and both serve the US West Coast. Alaska, American, Delta and United fly nonstop from cities such as Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver and Salt Lake City. Air Canada and WestJet fly from Vancouver and Calgary, and Mokulele links Maui with Molokai and Lanai.
Yes, if you arrive from the US mainland. Hawaii requires every traveler, even with nothing to declare, to complete the Plants and Animals Declaration, now submitted online through Akamai Arrival up to five days before the flight or during it. International arrivals declare to US Customs and Border Protection instead.
Not on domestic flights: travelers from the US mainland or other islands need only the ID their airline accepts. Visitors from abroad need a passport and an ESTA or US visa. Flights from Canada normally clear US border inspection at preclearance before departure, so you arrive at Kahului like a domestic passenger.
Taxis wait in front of the baggage claim area of the main terminal. The airport's taxi service is managed by SpeediShuttle, which also has a counter inside baggage claim for its shared shuttles. Taxis go door to door to Kahului, Kihei, Wailea and West Maui, though lines can form when several flights land together.
Follow the signs from baggage claim to the tram, which runs to the consolidated rental car facility opened in 2019. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Sixt and Thrifty serve the airport. Dollar, Enterprise and Thrifty offer ADA-accessible vehicles if you call at least 48 hours ahead.
Yes. Maui Bus Route 35 links the airport with Paia and Haiku, and Route 40 with Pukalani, Makawao and Haliimaile, both through Kahului. Reaching Kihei, Wailea or Kaanapali means changing buses, and space for large suitcases is limited, so most visitors rent a car, take a taxi or pre-book a ride.
Yes. Hawaiian Airlines runs two Premier Clubs, one across from Gate 17 and one across from Gate 15 that opened in December 2024 and opens from 9:30 to 15:30 daily. They admit Premier Club members, eligible first-class passengers and Pualani Gold and Platinum members.
Flights to the US mainland require a USDA agricultural inspection of your bags before you check in, at the inspection stations in the main terminal's ticketing area. Some fresh fruit, plants and soil cannot leave Hawaii, so check the USDA rules before packing, and allow time for the inspection line at busy hours.
