General Francisco J. Mujica International Airport (MLM), known as Morelia International Airport, sits in the municipality of Álvaro Obregón, about 27 km from the city. All flights use one single-storey terminal; passengers leave the aircraft by stairs, with no jet bridges.
On flights from the United States, you clear immigration first, then collect your bags and pass customs before reaching the arrivals hall. A hotel sits next to the terminal.
Morelia runs on Central Standard Time (UTC−6) all year.
Historic center streets. Many hotels sit on narrow colonial streets with limited parking; give the exact address so the driver gets as close as possible.
Day of the Dead. Pátzcuaro and Janitzio fill up around November 1–2; book early and allow extra time.
Butterfly season. The Monarch sanctuaries are open roughly November to March and sit in the mountains east of Morelia; enter your lodging or village so the right vehicle and price are shown.
Entry. International visitors need a valid passport. Carry some pesos for tips and small purchases.
