Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport (OLB) is on the edge of Olbia in northeast Sardinia, and Geasar runs it. All scheduled flights use the main terminal; a second building, Terminal 2, opens in summer only for charter check-in, so every arriving passenger exits into the same arrivals area.
Flights from Italy and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; from outside the Schengen area, including the UK, the US and Dubai, you line up at passport control before baggage claim. After customs you come out into the arrivals area, with an information desk, ATMs and a currency exchange, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers. In summer, lines can be long when several flights land together.
Sardinia is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and switches to UTC+2 from late March to late October. Italy uses the euro.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Italy is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Ferry tickets. Ferries to La Maddalena from Palau, and to mainland Italy from Olbia and Golfo Aranci, are booked separately with the ferry company. Give us your sailing time when you book, so the drop-off leaves time to check in.
Limited-traffic zone in Olbia. Parts of Olbia's historic center around Corso Umberto are a limited-traffic zone (ZTL). Give your full address; where cars cannot enter, your driver stops at the nearest point a car can reach.
Villas and gated estates. Many villas on the Costa Smeralda sit on private roads or behind gates. Send the exact address, a map pin and any gate code or caretaker's number when you book.
