Airport Transportation in Queenstown

Pre-booked private transportation takes you directly from Queenstown Airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental.

After immigration, baggage claim and customs, continue outside the terminal to the meeting area named in your confirmation. Your vehicle is reserved only for the passengers on your reservation: unlike a shared shuttle, it makes no extra hotel stops for other travelers, and the price is per vehicle, not per person.

Our airport transportation in Queenstown takes you from Frankton to hotels, lodges and vacation homes in Queenstown town center and Fernhill, along the lake at Kelvin Heights, at Jacks Point and Lake Hayes, and in historic Arrowtown.

Queenstown Airport Transfers

Queenstown airport transfers start in the arrivals area of the single terminal, where your driver meets you after baggage claim, and after passport control and biosecurity if you fly in from Australia. We track your flight, so the pickup follows your real landing time, and the fixed price for the vehicle is agreed before you fly, from a sedan for two to a van for a family or group with skis and luggage.

Each Queenstown airport transfer goes door to door to your hotel, lodge or vacation rental in town, Frankton, Kelvin Heights, Jacks Point or Arrowtown. Heading on to Wanaka, Glenorchy or the ski fields? Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered for that route before you pay.

Queenstown Airport Shuttle

Our Queenstown airport shuttle is a private van for your party only, not a shared shuttle that stops at other hotels around town. It leaves as soon as you have your bags, with room for ski and snowboard bags, bikes and strollers, and suits families, groups and ski trips.

Landing at Queenstown Airport

Queenstown Airport (ZQN) is in Frankton, on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, and Queenstown Airport Corporation runs it. All flights use one single-level terminal with domestic and international areas and no jet bridges, so you walk across the apron from the aircraft.

On flights from Australia you go through passport control with your digital arrival declaration (NZTD), then the biosecurity check, where officers give you a colored card for your exit lane; collect every bag, including oversize items, before you walk out into the main terminal. Domestic passengers collect bags at bag claim 1 or 2.

The terminal is open from 04:00 to 22:30 and closes overnight. New Zealand is on UTC+12, and UTC+13 for daylight saving time from late September to early April, and uses the New Zealand dollar.

Entry requirements and local notes

NZeTA and visitor levy. Visitors from visa-waiver countries need an NZeTA before they travel, usually issued together with the International Visitor Conservation and Tourism Levy (IVL); others need a visa. Australian citizens need neither. Check Immigration New Zealand for your nationality.

Arrival declaration. Everyone entering New Zealand completes the free digital arrival declaration (NZTD), ideally online before the flight.

Biosecurity. Declare all food, plant and animal products, and outdoor gear such as hiking boots, tents, and ski or bike equipment, which should be clean. Undeclared risk items can bring an instant fine.

Evening curfew. The airport has a 10:00 pm curfew and the terminal closes at 22:30, so give your exact flight details when you book.

Queenstown Airport Transportation FAQs

Where will my driver meet me at Queenstown Airport?

In the arrivals area of the single terminal, after baggage claim, and after passport control and biosecurity if you arrive from Australia. Your confirmation gives the meeting details.

How far is Queenstown Airport from Queenstown town center?

The airport is in Frankton, about 8 km (5 miles) east of the town center, usually a 15 to 20 minute drive along Frankton Road, longer at busy times. Arrowtown is about 20 minutes away, and Wanaka about an hour over the Crown Range.

Can you take me to Arrowtown?

Yes. We drive door to door to hotels, cottages and vacation homes in Arrowtown and around Lake Hayes.

Can you take me to Kelvin Heights, Jacks Point or Fernhill?

Yes. We drive to hotels, lodges and homes along the lake at Kelvin Heights, at Jacks Point and Hanley's Farm, and up the hill in Fernhill and Sunshine Bay.

Can you take me to Wanaka?

Wanaka is over the Crown Range, about an hour from the airport. Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered; if it is not, contact us before you fly.

Can you take me to Coronet Peak, The Remarkables or Cardrona?

The ski fields are reached by mountain access roads that can need chains in winter. Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered for that route; if it is not, contact us before you fly.

Can you take me to Glenorchy or Te Anau?

Glenorchy is at the head of Lake Wakatipu, and Te Anau is the gateway to Fiordland and Milford Sound. Enter your address in the booking form to see whether a transfer is offered; if it is not, contact us before you fly.

How many terminals does Queenstown Airport have?

One. Domestic and international flights use separate areas of the same single-level terminal, and all arriving passengers come out into the same main terminal.

Do you drive to vacation rentals and holiday homes in Queenstown?

Yes. Give the full street address and any gate code or access details, since many homes sit on steep or private driveways; your driver stops at the nearest point a vehicle can safely reach.

Can you pick me up from a late-evening or early-morning flight?

Yes, book the pickup to match your flight. The terminal is open from 04:00 to 22:30 and the airport has a 10:00 pm curfew, so evening arrivals are common, and we follow your flight's real landing time.

Should I accept rides from people offering transportation inside Queenstown Airport?

There is no need. Booking ahead gives you a confirmed vehicle and a meeting point before you land. If someone approaches you in arrivals, check the company name against your confirmation before getting in.

What happens if my flight is delayed or canceled?

We monitor the flight on your reservation, so your driver waits for the actual landing. If your flight number, date or airline changes, or your flight is canceled, tell customer service so the pickup can be moved.

Can I book a ride back to Queenstown Airport?

Yes. Book a one-way departure or a round trip from your hotel, lodge or vacation rental, and give your flight number and departure time so the pickup is set for check-in and security.

What do I need to enter New Zealand at Queenstown Airport?

A valid passport, a visa or an NZeTA with the visitor levy (Australian citizens need neither), and the free digital arrival declaration (NZTD). Declare food and outdoor gear at the biosecurity check.
