Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) is Quito's airport and the busiest in Ecuador. Opened in February 2013, it sits in the Tababela parish east of the city, in a valley at about 2,400 meters above sea level, and is operated by Corporación Quiport. One passenger terminal with separate domestic and international areas handles every flight.
After landing you clear immigration, where officers record your entry, then collect your bags in the baggage hall and pass customs before walking into the public arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers wait with name signs.
Quito runs on Ecuador time (UTC−5) all year, with no daylight saving time, and the currency is the US dollar.
Passport and onward travel. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from arrival, and immigration officers may ask about the purpose of your trip and for proof of onward or return travel. Visa rules depend on nationality.
Customs registration. The online customs registration is only needed if you carry taxable goods or cash of 10,000 US dollars or more.
Altitude. The airport is at about 2,400 meters and Quito sits higher, so drink water and take your first day slowly if you are arriving from sea level.
Galápagos connections. Flights to Baltra and San Cristóbal need the Galápagos Transit Control Card, pre-registered online and validated at the airport counter, plus a bag inspection before check-in, so allow extra time.
