Entry rules. Italy is in the Schengen Area. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check passport validity and visa rules for your nationality before you travel.
Marco Polo or Treviso. Some airlines sell Treviso Airport (TSF) as Venice, but it is a separate airport near the city of Treviso. This page is for Venice Marco Polo (VCE); check the code on your ticket before you book.
Reaching a hotel on the canals. No cars go beyond Piazzale Roma. For a hotel in the historic center, either continue from Piazzale Roma on foot, by vaporetto or by water taxi, or pre-book a private water taxi from the airport dock, about 10 minutes' walk from arrivals along the covered walkway signed "Water Transport". Pre-booked water taxi drivers meet you at the dock, not in the arrivals hall, and boats carry only a small group, so check the boat size if you have a lot of luggage.
Fog and high water. Autumn and winter can bring fog and occasional high water (acqua alta) in the historic center.
