Queen Alia International Airport (AMM) serves Amman, the capital of Jordan, and is the country's main air gateway. Airport International Group operates it, and it handled about 9.8 million passengers in 2025. Royal Jordanian is based here and flies across the Middle East, Europe and North America, while flynas, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, flydubai, Pegasus Airlines, Wizz Air and other airlines link Amman with the Gulf, Turkey, Egypt and Europe. Dubai, Jeddah, Cairo, Riyadh and Istanbul were the busiest destinations in 2025.
All flights use a single terminal, with arrivals on the lower level, departures above, and gates on North and South piers beyond a central security and shopping area.
The airport sits in Zizya, about 30 km south of Amman along the Desert Highway, a drive of roughly 35 to 55 minutes depending on traffic and your district. From the airport, travelers head to Amman, the Dead Sea, Madaba, Petra and Wadi Rum.

After landing, follow the signs to immigration. Many nationalities can get a Jordanian visa on arrival at the counters before passport control, and a Jordan Pass bought before travel can waive the visa fee if you stay at least two nights; check the rules for your passport. Then collect your bags and pass through customs into the arrivals hall, where you will find ATMs, SIM card shops and 24-hour car rental desks.
Outside the main exit, the official Airport Taxi kiosk issues a receipt that you hand to your driver, and fares are set by law. The Sariyah Airport Express kiosk and its yellow buses are opposite. Pre-booked drivers wait in the arrivals area. Politely decline unofficial drivers who approach you inside the terminal.
Jordan uses the Jordanian dinar (JOD) and stays on UTC+3 all year. Summers are hot and dry, and winters are cool, with occasional rain.
An official airport taxi or a pre-booked transfer suits most travelers, especially those continuing to the Dead Sea or Petra, while the Airport Express bus suits budget trips into Amman.
The official Airport Taxi kiosk is outside the arrivals exit and works 24 hours; you receive a receipt to hand to the driver. The ride to Amman takes about 35 to 55 minutes, depending on traffic and your district.
Yellow Sariyah buses leave from a marked stop outside arrivals, with tickets sold only at the kiosk, and run about every 30 minutes by day and hourly overnight. They stop at 7th Circle and other circles on the way to the North Bus Station (Tabarbour), taking about 45 to 90 minutes, and you may need a taxi from your stop.
A pre-booked driver meets you in arrivals and can go straight to Amman, the Dead Sea, Madaba or Petra. It has to be arranged in advance.
Rideshare apps work in Amman, but cars at the airport are scarce and unreliable, so the official taxi kiosk is the more dependable choice on arrival.
Car rental desks are in the arrivals hall, and the airport sits on the Desert Highway. The Dead Sea is about an hour's drive, and Petra about 209 km or 2.5 hours to the south.

The Jordan Pass is a tourist pass that includes entry to more than 40 sites, such as Petra and Wadi Rum. It is not a visa, but it waives the visa fee for single-entry visas if you buy it before arriving and stay in Jordan at least two consecutive nights. You show it at the airport visa office.
Petra's visitor center in Wadi Musa is about 209 km from Queen Alia airport, roughly 2.5 hours by car via the Desert Highway. The slower King's Highway passes Madaba, Karak and Dana. Wadi Rum lies further south off the Desert Highway, so many travelers combine both on a trip from the airport.
