About Curaçao International Airport

Curaçao International Airport (CUR), also called Hato Airport, is the airport for Willemstad and the island of Curaçao in the Dutch Caribbean. It stands at Hato on the island's north coast, about 12 km (7.5 miles) from Willemstad's historic Punda and Otrobanda districts.

Flights come mainly from the Netherlands, North America, South America and the neighboring islands. KLM, TUI and Corendon fly from Amsterdam; American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta and United link Curaçao with Miami, Charlotte, New York, Atlanta and Newark; Air Canada Rouge and WestJet fly from Toronto. Avianca, Copa and Wingo connect Bogotá and Panama City, while Divi Divi Air, Winair and Z Air fly short hops to Aruba, Bonaire and Sint Maarten. The airport handled about 2.46 million passengers in 2025.

All flights use a single terminal, opened in late 2018, with separate arrivals and departures halls and six boarding bridges.

From the airport, most travelers head into Willemstad and its cruise pier, to the resorts and beaches of Piscadera and Jan Thiel on the south coast, or west along the island to Westpunt, about 40 minutes away.

Arrival tips for Curaçao International Airport

Before you fly, complete the free Digital Immigration Card (DI card) online; it opens 7 days before departure and every non-resident traveler needs one. Curaçao is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands but outside the Schengen area, so every arriving passenger goes through passport control, and holders of the Curaçao Express Pass can use a fast-track lane.

After immigration, collect your bags at baggage claim and pass customs, where you choose the green channel if you have nothing to declare or the red channel if you do. You then walk out into the Arrivals Hall, which has car rental counters and an ATM that dispenses US dollars, euros and Caribbean guilders.

Authorized taxis wait in a designated area outside the Arrivals Hall, and public buses stop just past it. The curb in front of the hall is not a waiting area, so people collecting passengers park in the lot beside it. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you as you come out of the Arrivals Hall.

Curaçao is on Atlantic Standard Time (UTC-4) all year, with no daylight saving time.

Ground transportation

A taxi or pre-booked car is the easy choice for most visitors, since buses are infrequent and resorts are spread along the coast.

  • Taxi from Curaçao airport

Authorized taxis wait in a designated area outside the Arrivals Hall and go door to door to Willemstad, the cruise pier and the beach resorts. Agree on the fare before you set off.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked car meets you outside the Arrivals Hall, useful for families, groups, late arrivals and villas in the west of the island.

  • Car rental

The official car rental companies have counters in the Arrivals Hall, and approved off-airport companies run shuttles that you book ahead. A car suits travelers who plan to explore the island's beaches.

  • Public bus

Buses stop just past the Arrivals Hall and next to the Departures Hall, and the island's routes start and end at the Punda and Otrobanda bus terminals in Willemstad. Service is infrequent, and luggage space is limited.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Curaçao airport from Willemstad?

Curaçao International Airport is at Hato, about 12 km (7.5 miles) from Willemstad's Punda and Otrobanda districts. The drive usually takes around 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Taxis wait outside the Arrivals Hall, and pre-booked drivers meet passengers as they come out, so most visitors reach the city, the cruise pier and the nearby beach resorts by car.

Is Hato Airport the same as Curaçao International Airport?

Yes. Curaçao International Airport stands on the former Hato plantation, so many people still call it Hato Airport or Hato International Airport. It was also named Dr. Albert Plesman Airport for a time. Its code is CUR, and it is the only airport with scheduled passenger flights on Curaçao, so every flight to the island lands here.

Do I need a DI card to enter Curaçao?

Yes. Every non-resident traveler must complete the Digital Immigration Card (DI card) online before arriving, including people born in Curaçao who live abroad. It is free on the official portal, dicardcuracao.com, and opens 7 days before departure. Keep the confirmation on your phone or printed, and avoid third-party websites that charge a fee for the same form.

Is Curaçao in the Schengen area?

No. Curaçao is a country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, but it is outside the Schengen area and the EU Entry/Exit System. Every arriving passenger, including travelers from Amsterdam, goes through Curaçao's own passport control. Check the visa rules for your nationality and make sure your passport is valid for your whole stay before you fly.

How many terminals does Curaçao airport have?

Curaçao has one passenger terminal, opened in late 2018, for every international and inter-island flight. It has an Arrivals Hall, a Check-in Hall and a departure area with six boarding bridges. All arriving passengers leave through the same Arrivals Hall, so there is no terminal to choose and no transfer between terminals.

Which airlines fly to Curaçao?

KLM, TUI and Corendon fly from Amsterdam, and American Airlines, JetBlue, Delta and United connect Curaçao with Miami, Charlotte, New York, Atlanta and Newark. Air Canada Rouge and WestJet fly from Toronto, Avianca, Copa and Wingo link Colombia and Panama, and Divi Divi Air, Winair and Z Air fly to Aruba, Bonaire and Sint Maarten.

Where are the taxis at Curaçao airport?

Authorized taxis wait in a designated area outside the Arrivals Hall. They go door to door to Willemstad, the cruise pier and resorts across the island. Confirm the fare with the driver before you set off, and use the official taxi area rather than people offering rides inside the terminal.

Is there a bus from Curaçao airport to Willemstad?

Yes, public buses stop just past the Arrivals Hall and next to the Departures Hall. Island routes start and end at the Punda and Otrobanda bus terminals in Willemstad. Service is infrequent and luggage space is limited, so most visitors arriving with suitcases take a taxi, a rental car or a pre-booked transfer instead.

Can I rent a car at Curaçao airport?

Yes. The official car rental companies have counters in the Arrivals Hall, and approved off-airport companies pick customers up by shuttle, which you should book in advance. Counter hours follow the airport's operating hours, so confirm with your rental company if you land late. A car is useful for exploring the beaches in the west of the island.

What currency should I bring to Curaçao?

The local currency is the Caribbean guilder (XCG), which replaced the Netherlands Antillean guilder in 2025, but US dollars and cards are widely accepted. The airport's three ATMs, including one in the Arrivals Hall, dispense US dollars, euros and guilders, so you can take out cash as soon as you land.

Is there a lounge at Curaçao airport?

Yes. The VIP Lounge is open daily from 8:30 to 20:30, with hours that may change with flight operations. You can buy a day pass of up to three hours at the door, or enter with a lounge program card such as Priority Pass, LoungeKey, Diners Club or DragonPass. Some airlines also partner with the lounge.

Is there Wi-Fi at Curaçao airport?

Yes. Free basic Wi-Fi covers the airport. Each session lasts 60 minutes, after which you reconnect to continue. That is enough to message your hotel or driver after landing, though travelers who need mobile data across the island usually buy a local SIM or eSIM.

What time zone is Curaçao in?

Curaçao is on Atlantic Standard Time, UTC-4, all year and does not use daylight saving time. That puts it on the same clock as New York in summer and one hour ahead of New York in winter. Flights from Amsterdam arrive six hours behind Dutch time in summer and five hours behind in winter.
