Liverpool John Lennon Airport (LPL) is the airport for Liverpool and Merseyside, in England, United Kingdom. It sits in Speke, on the bank of the Mersey estuary, about 7.5 miles south-east of Liverpool city centre. Long known as Speke Airport, it was renamed after the Beatles' John Lennon in 2001.
easyJet is the largest airline, and Ryanair, Jet2 and Wizz Air add many routes, mostly to cities and holiday destinations across Europe, such as Alicante, Barcelona, Málaga, Palma, Amsterdam, Dublin and Kraków, plus Marrakesh and Reykjavík. Aer Lingus flies to Dublin and Loganair to the Isle of Man. In 2025 the airport had its busiest year on record.
All flights use a single terminal. It has no jet bridges, so you walk or take a bus between the aircraft and the building.
From the airport, most travelers head into Liverpool city centre and the waterfront, across the Mersey to the Wirral, or out to Chester and North Wales. The 500 express bus runs to the city centre every 30 minutes.

All flights arrive at the single terminal. As there are no jet bridges, you leave the aircraft by steps and walk or take a bus to the building, so have a jacket handy if it is raining.
You clear UK passport control first. Many visitors can use the automatic eGates, while others queue at the staffed desks. Most visitors who do not need a visa now need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before travelling to the UK. After baggage reclaim, use the green channel if you have nothing to declare or the red channel if you do.
Outside the terminal, the Arriva 500 express bus runs to Liverpool city centre every 30 minutes, and other local buses serve the surrounding area. There is no railway station at the airport: the nearest intercity station is Liverpool South Parkway, about 3 miles away, and Hunts Cross is the nearest Merseyrail station. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you in the arrivals hall.
The UK is on GMT in winter and BST (GMT+1) in summer, and uses pounds sterling.
The 500 express bus is the budget way into Liverpool; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier with luggage or for Chester and North Wales.
Arriva's express bus runs every 30 minutes from outside the terminal to Liverpool city centre. The cheapest direct option.
A pre-booked car meets you in the arrivals hall, useful for families, groups and trips to Chester, the Wirral or North Wales.
Taxis wait outside the terminal. Door to door to the city centre, Anfield or the docks.
Liverpool South Parkway, about 3 miles away, has intercity trains and Merseyrail services; you need a bus or taxi to get there.
