Air Canada is the flag carrier and largest airline of Canada, headquartered in Montreal. It was founded in 1937 as Trans-Canada Air Lines and took its current name in 1965. In 1997 it was one of the five founding members of the Star Alliance.

Its main hubs are Toronto Pearson, Montréal–Trudeau and Vancouver, with Calgary as a further hub. From them Air Canada serves more than 200 destinations across Canada, the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

The group also includes Air Canada Rouge, its leisure airline for sun and holiday routes, and Air Canada Express, the regional flights operated by partner carriers. Aeroplan is its loyalty program.

Signature Class

Baggage Cabin bags, checked bags, missing luggage

Air Canada baggage allowances depend on the fare, cabin, route, Aeroplan or Star Alliance status and card benefits, and are shown during booking.

Carry-on

One standard carry-on up to 23 × 40 × 55 cm plus one personal item on most fares. Basic fares on some routes are limited to a personal item.

Checked baggage

Paid on Basic and many Standard economy fares within North America and to the sun; included on most transatlantic and transpacific fares and in premium cabins.

Check-in and boarding Steps before departure

Check-in on aircanada.com or the Air Canada app opens 24 hours before departure. Follow the check-in and bag-drop deadlines shown in your booking, which are longer for US and international flights.

Lounges

Air Canada operates Maple Leaf Lounges in Canada and at selected international airports, and Signature Suites for Signature Class passengers at Toronto and Vancouver. Eligible passengers can also use Star Alliance partner lounges. Access depends on cabin, status and itinerary.

Loyalty program

Aeroplan is Air Canada's loyalty program. Members earn points on Air Canada and Star Alliance flights and with partners, and redeem them for flights, upgrades and other rewards. Aeroplan Elite Status adds benefits such as priority services and lounge access. Program rules change, so check your account for the current conditions.
