Also known as: Puerto Plata Airport, Puerto Plata International Airport, Gregorio Luperón Airport, POP Airport.

Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) is the airport for Puerto Plata and the Dominican Republic's north coast, also known as the Amber Coast.
Most flights come from Canada, the United States and Europe: Air Canada, Air Transat and WestJet fly from Toronto and Montreal, American Airlines from Miami, JetBlue from New York JFK, United from Newark and Delta from Atlanta, with Copa linking Panama City and Condor and Edelweiss flying from Frankfurt and Zurich. The airport handled about 848,000 passengers in 2024.
Everything happens in one terminal with check-in, immigration, baggage claim and customs, plus 10 gates split between a front concourse and a satellite concourse.
The airport sits on the coast between Puerto Plata and Sosúa. Sosúa is the closest town, about 7 km and 10 to 15 minutes away. Cabarete, the north coast's kitesurfing hub, is about 20 km east, around 25 to 30 minutes by car. To the west, downtown Puerto Plata is about 18 km away and the all-inclusive resorts of Playa Dorada are usually 20 to 30 minutes from the terminal, with Costambar and Cofresí beyond the city.

Before you fly, complete the Dominican Republic's free eTicket at the official portal eticket.migracion.gob.do and keep the QR code it gives you; it covers both immigration and customs.
After landing, follow the signs to immigration, where officers check your passport and eTicket. Then collect your bags in the baggage hall, where free baggage carts are available, and pass through customs. Representatives and drivers cannot enter these areas.
Once through customs you walk out to the transportation area in front of the terminal, where the official taxi stand, the car rental counters and pre-booked drivers with name signs are waiting. A tourist help desk is at the entrance to the arrivals area if you need directions. Use the official taxi stand or your booked driver rather than anyone offering rides inside the terminal, and agree any taxi fare before your luggage is loaded.
Most visitors use a pre-booked transfer, a resort shuttle or a taxi; the main resort areas are 10 to 30 minutes away.
A driver meets you outside arrivals and takes your party straight to your hotel, condo or villa in Sosúa, Cabarete or Playa Dorada, arranged before you fly, with no waiting at the taxi stand.
The official taxi stand is in front of the terminal. Taxis are not metered, so confirm the fare before your bags go in the car.
Many package vacations include a shared shuttle to the resort. It is part of the package, but it stops at several hotels on the way.
Alamo, Avis, Budget, Europcar and Hertz have counters at the airport. A car is handy for exploring the north coast; book ahead if you need an automatic.

Sosúa is about 7 km from Gregorio Luperón International Airport, usually 10 to 15 minutes by car. It is the closest town to the airport, which sits on the coast road between Sosúa and Puerto Plata, so it is the quickest drive for travelers staying in Sosúa's hotels, condos and villas.
Cabarete is about 20 km east of the airport, around 25 to 30 minutes by car. The route follows the north coast road through Sosúa, so traffic in town can add a few minutes at busy times, especially on weekends and in the afternoon.
Playa Dorada's all-inclusive resorts are usually 20 to 30 minutes from the airport by car. The complex sits on the beach just east of Puerto Plata city, about the same distance as downtown, which is roughly 18 km west of the terminal along the coast road.
Downtown Puerto Plata is about 18 km west of the airport, usually around 25 minutes by car along the coast road. The airport is closer to Sosúa than to the city, so plan a little extra time for Costambar and Cofresí, which lie on the far side of Puerto Plata.
Yes. Everyone arriving in the Dominican Republic on a commercial flight, children included, needs the free eTicket from the official portal eticket.migracion.gob.do. It combines the entry and customs forms into one QR code, which is checked when you travel. You also complete it for your departure.
Puerto Plata airport has one passenger terminal. Check-in, immigration, baggage claim and customs are all in the same building, with 10 gates split between a front concourse and a satellite concourse. Do not count on it. Most arriving travelers use the official taxi stand in front of the terminal, a resort shuttle, a rental car or a private transfer booked in advance. Taxis at the airport are not metered, so agree the fare with the driver before your luggage goes in the car.
The official taxi stand is in the transportation area in front of the terminal, a short walk from the arrivals exit. Taxis are not metered, so confirm the fare to your hotel before you set off, and use the official stand rather than anyone who approaches you inside the terminal.
