Passenger Terminal
The single terminal for all scheduled domestic and international flights, with arrivals and baggage claim on the ground floor and check-in, security and 13 gates upstairs.
Also known as: Tulum Airport, Tulum International Airport, TQO Airport, Felipe Carrillo Puerto Airport.
TQO · MMTL · Tulum
Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO), known to most travelers as Tulum International Airport, serves Tulum and the southern Riviera Maya in Quintana Roo, Mexico. It opened on December 1, 2023, beside Federal Highway 307 at Chunyaxché, about 20 km southwest of Tulum and some 125 km south of Cancún International Airport.
Flights connect Tulum with Mexico City–Felipe Ángeles, Monterrey and Guadalajara on Mexican airlines, and with US hubs on American, Delta and United, including Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth and Houston. In the winter season Air Canada, Air Transat and WestJet add flights from Montréal, Toronto, Québec City and Calgary.
All passenger flights use one terminal, with arrivals on the ground floor, departures upstairs and 13 gates. A separate executive aviation terminal handles private flights, and the Tren Maya's Tulum Aeropuerto station stands next to the airport.
The usual drive to Tulum town takes about 30 minutes on Highway 307, and the Tulum Hotel Zone along the beach road takes longer. From here travelers also head north to Aldea Zamá, Akumal and Puerto Aventuras, or south toward Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Bacalar and Mahahual.

Tulum has one terminal, and arriving passengers stay on its ground floor from the aircraft to the curb. International passengers start at Mexican immigration: have your passport ready, together with your return ticket and the address where you're staying. Mexico records your entry digitally at most airports, and eligible travelers may be directed to the electronic gates.
Next, collect your bags at the carousel shown for your flight. Report missing or damaged luggage at your airline's desk before you leave baggage claim.
Customs comes last. Make any declaration you need and follow the officers' instructions; some bags are selected for a quick inspection.
You then come out into the arrivals area, where taxi booths, ADO bus tickets, car-rental desks and drivers holding name signs wait. If you already have a booking, walk past anyone offering transport and go to the meeting point in your confirmation. The Tren Maya station is next to the terminal, but trains are timed for intercity routes rather than flight arrivals.
A pre-booked transfer suits most travelers going to a hotel or vacation rental, because buses and trains stop at stations, not at your door.
A driver meets you as you leave arrivals and drives straight to your address in Tulum town, Aldea Zamá, the Hotel Zone, Akumal or farther along the coast. The most comfortable choice with luggage or a group, at a higher cost than the bus.
Airport taxis sell fixed fares from booths in the arrivals area; there is no meter, so confirm the price before you load your bags. Usually more expensive than a pre-booked ride for families and groups.
ADO coaches run several times a day between the airport and the ADO terminal in Tulum town, with tickets sold at a desk in arrivals and online. They don't stop at hotels, so you need a taxi from the station.
The station is next to the terminal, with trains to Tulum station and north toward Playa del Carmen and Cancún. Departures are few and not timed to flights, and the town station is outside the center.
Car-rental desks operate in the terminal, and Mexican third-party liability insurance is required at the counter. Useful for touring the coast, less so if you plan to stay in Tulum.

A pharmacy operates in the terminal. Carry prescription medicine in your hand luggage, in its original packaging.
Several international car-rental companies have desks in the arrivals area.
Four baggage belts on the ground floor serve all arriving flights. Report missing or damaged bags at your airline's desk before leaving the hall.
Tulum Aeropuerto station on the Tren Maya stands next to the terminal.
Ask your airline for wheelchair service or other help when you book, or at least 48 hours before you fly. Assistance at the airport is arranged by the airline and its ground-handling company.
Boarding gates use ramps down to the apron rather than stairs, so passengers can walk to the aircraft. Confirm handling of your own mobility equipment with the airline in advance.
Confirm the documents and travel conditions for a service animal with your airline before you fly.
If you requested assistance, tell the cabin crew before you leave the aircraft so airline staff can meet you.
A public parking lot with about 500 spaces stands in front of the terminal. Check the posted rate board on entry and keep your ticket for the exit.
Tulum's airport uses the IATA code TQO and the ICAO code MMTL. TQO is the code on boarding passes, baggage tags and flight-search sites. Its official name is Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport, but airlines and travelers usually call it Tulum. Cancún (CUN) is a different airport about 125 km to the north, so check the code on your ticket before planning how you will leave the airport.
Yes. Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport is the official name of Tulum International Airport, code TQO. It honors a former governor of Yucatán and shares its name with the town and municipality of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, where the airport land lies. The town itself is farther south, so if your ticket says TQO, you are landing at the airport near Tulum.
Tulum International Airport is about 20 km southwest of Tulum town, beside Federal Highway 307. The drive into town usually takes about 30 minutes. The Tulum Hotel Zone along the beach road is farther, and traffic on that narrow road can add time in the afternoon and evening, so allow longer if you are staying by the beach.
Tulum International Airport opened on December 1, 2023. Construction started in 2022 on a site of about 1,200 hectares at Chunyaxché, beside Highway 307 south of Tulum, and the terminal is designed for about 5.5 million passengers a year. It is one of the newest airports in Mexico and is run by Grupo Mundo Maya, a state-owned company.
Tulum airport has one passenger terminal for all domestic and international flights, so there is no terminal to choose. Arrivals and baggage claim are on the ground floor, and check-in, security and the 13 gates are upstairs. A separate executive aviation terminal handles private flights. Because there is one building, anyone meeting you only needs your flight number.
American, Delta and United fly to Tulum from Dallas/Fort Worth, Atlanta and Houston, with seasonal flights from Miami and Newark. Air Canada, Air Transat and WestJet return for the winter from late October 2026 with flights from Montréal, Toronto, Québec City and Calgary. Viva Aerobus and Mexicana fly from Mexico City–Felipe Ángeles, and Viva also from Monterrey. Aeroméxico ended its flights in September 2026.
Yes, in the winter season. Air Canada, Air Transat and WestJet resume flights to Tulum from October 24, 2026, through March 2027, from Montréal, Toronto, Québec City and Calgary. Outside that season, travelers from Canada usually connect through a US or Mexican hub or fly to Cancún instead. Schedules change from year to year, so check with the airline when you book.
Fly into Tulum (TQO) if you are staying in Tulum, Akumal or farther south toward Bacalar and a flight suits you, because the airport is much closer. Cancún (CUN) has many more airlines and nonstop routes and is closer to Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos. Compare the total trip, flight plus ground time, for your dates before you book.
Most travelers take a pre-booked transfer or an airport taxi, which go door to door to hotels on the beach road. ADO buses and the Tren Maya stop at stations in Tulum town, so you would need a taxi from there to the beach. Give your driver the hotel's exact name and kilometer marker, because many properties share similar names.
Yes. Tulum Aeropuerto station on the Tren Maya stands next to the terminal. Trains run to Tulum station and north toward Playa del Carmen and Cancún Airport, and south toward Bacalar and Chetumal. Services are few and timed for intercity routes rather than flight arrivals, and Tulum station is outside the town center, so check the timetable before you rely on it.
Yes. ADO coaches link the airport with the ADO terminal in Tulum town several times a day, with tickets sold at a desk in the arrivals area and on the ADO website. The bus does not stop at hotels or rentals, so you need a taxi from the station to your address, especially if you are staying in Aldea Zamá or the Hotel Zone.
Do not plan on it. Ride-hailing apps are legal in Quintana Roo, but in practice they are hard to use around Tulum because local taxi unions control pickups, and the airport has its own authorized taxis. Arrange a transfer before you land or use the taxi booths in arrivals, where fares are fixed and quoted before you get in.
A common guideline is to arrive at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight. Tulum has one compact terminal, but security and check-in lines build up when several US and Canadian flights leave close together in winter. Allow for the drive from the Hotel Zone, and follow your airline's own recommendation first.
