Volaris is an ultra-low-cost airline based in Mexico City. It was founded in 2005, began scheduled flights on 13 March 2006, and has become Mexico's largest airline by passengers carried. It flies an all-Airbus A320 family fleet and was the first North American operator of the A320neo, in 2016.

Its hubs are Guadalajara, Mexico City and Tijuana, with focus cities in Cancún, León/Del Bajío and Monterrey. Volaris serves domestic routes across Mexico, a large network to the United States aimed at visiting-friends-and-relatives travel, and routes in Central America through Volaris Costa Rica and Volaris El Salvador.

In December 2025 Volaris and Viva Aerobus agreed to combine under a new holding company while keeping both airlines and brands separate. As of September 2026 the deal had cleared US review and was awaiting Mexican antitrust approval.

Practical information

Baggage Cabin bags, checked bags, missing luggage

Volaris is an ultra-low-cost carrier: the base fare includes a personal item only on many routes. Carry-on and checked bags are added during booking or come with higher fare bundles, and buying them in advance is usually cheaper than at the airport.

Personal item

Included with every fare. It must fit under the seat in front.

Carry-on and checked bags

Purchased as extras or included in bundles. Size and weight limits are shown during booking.

Special items

Sports equipment, pets and oversized items follow separate rules. Check volaris.com before you fly.

Check-in and boarding Steps before departure

Online check-in on volaris.com or the Volaris app is the cheapest option; airport check-in can carry a fee on some fares. Follow the deadlines shown in your booking.

  1. 1 Confirm

Confirm the airport and terminal, especially in Mexico City.

  2. 2 Documents

Review passport, visa and entry requirements, particularly for flights to the United States.

  3. 3 Check in

Check in online or in the app.

  4. 4 Bags

Make sure your bags match what you paid for, to avoid fees at the gate.

  5. 5 Arrive early

Allow time for bag drop, security and immigration on international flights.

Loyalty program

v.club is Volaris's membership program, giving members access to lower fares and other benefits for a yearly fee. Volaris also offers a co-branded credit card. Program terms change, so check volaris.com for the current conditions.
