Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY), officially Il Caravaggio International Airport, is in Orio al Serio, just southeast of Bergamo, and SACBO runs it. All flights use one terminal, with gate areas A and B, so there is no terminal to choose; Ryanair has one of its largest bases here.
Flights from Italy and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks; from outside the Schengen area, including the UK, Morocco and Albania, you line up at passport control. After baggage claim you walk through customs into the arrivals hall, where pre-booked drivers meet passengers. The taxi stand and the coach stops are outside.
Italy is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and switches to UTC+2 for daylight saving time from late March to late October. It uses the euro.
Entry requirements and local notes
Schengen entry. Italy is in the Schengen area. Non-EU travelers arriving from outside it are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026. Check the visa rules for your nationality before you fly.
Three Milan airports. Milan is also served by Malpensa (MXP) and Linate (LIN), so check that your ticket says BGY. Landing at Malpensa? Book on our Malpensa page.
Città Alta traffic zone. The historic center of Città Alta is a limited traffic zone (ZTL) with camera-controlled gates, so give your full address and hotel name when you book.
Euro and cards. Italy uses the euro, and cards and contactless payments are widely accepted.
