About Il Caravaggio International Airport

Il Caravaggio International Airport (BGY), better known as Milan Bergamo or Bergamo Airport, serves Bergamo and Milan in Lombardy, northern Italy. It stands in Orio al Serio, about 4 km (2.5 miles) southeast of Bergamo and about 45 km (28 miles) northeast of Milan, beside the A4 highway.

It is one of Italy's busiest airports, with about 16.9 million passengers in 2025, and most of its traffic is low-cost. Ryanair runs one of its largest bases here, with flights across Italy and Europe, while Wizz Air serves Eastern Europe and the Balkans. Air Arabia, flydubai, Pegasus Airlines, AJet, Norwegian, Eurowings, Neos and Volotea add routes to North Africa, the Middle East, Turkey, Scandinavia and holiday islands.

All flights use a single terminal, split into gate areas A and B and enlarged in 2025 with a new check-in hall and departures area.

From the airport, the drive to central Bergamo and its walled upper town, Città Alta, usually takes about 15 minutes, and the drive to central Milan about an hour, depending on traffic on the A4. Many travelers also continue to Lake Iseo, Lake Como, Lake Garda, Brescia or the ski resorts of the Alps.

Arrival tips for Il Caravaggio International Airport

Flights from Italy and other Schengen countries arrive without passport checks. If you come from outside the Schengen area, such as the UK, Morocco, Albania or Turkey, you line up at passport control, where non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES).

Bergamo has one terminal, so after baggage claim and customs you walk straight into the arrivals hall. Currency exchange, a Bergamo tourist information point and free Wi-Fi are in the terminal.

Outside, the taxi stand is at the arrivals exit by Door 1. Coaches to Milano Centrale and ATB line 1 buses to Bergamo station and Città Alta leave from the bus stops in front of the terminal, and the left luggage office is in the Mobility Plaza, which links the terminal with the railway station under construction. Pre-booked drivers usually meet you in the arrivals hall.

Italy is on Central European Time and uses the euro.

Ground transportation

Coaches are the cheapest way to Milan; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier with luggage, at night or for the lakes.

  • Coach to Milano Centrale

Autostradale, Flibco, Orioshuttle and Terravision run frequent coaches to Milano Centrale station, usually about an hour depending on traffic on the A4.

  • ATB bus line 1 to Bergamo

ATB's airport bus links the terminal with Bergamo railway station, the city center and Città Alta, about three times an hour; it can be slow at rush hour.

  • Coaches to other cities

Direct coaches run to Brescia, Verona Porta Nuova, Desenzano del Garda, Como, Monza, Fiera Milano Rho and Malpensa Airport, with fewer departures than the Milan lines.

  • Taxi from Bergamo airport

Official taxis wait at the rank by the arrivals exit at Door 1. The ride into Bergamo is short; to Milan it is a long, metered trip.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked car meets you in the arrivals hall, useful for families, groups, late arrivals and trips to Milan or the lakes.
