Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of the three main airports serving New York City, along with JFK and LaGuardia. It straddles the cities of Newark and Elizabeth in New Jersey, about 9 miles (14 km) west-southwest of Manhattan and 4.5 miles south of downtown Newark.
United Airlines carries about two-thirds of Newark's passengers and uses the airport as a global hub, with flights across the United States and to Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Air Canada, American, Delta, JetBlue, Alaska and many foreign airlines, including British Airways, Lufthansa and Aer Lingus, also fly here.
The airport has three terminals. The new Terminal A opened in 2023, Terminal B handles most foreign airlines and international arrivals, and Terminal C belongs to United. The free AirTrain links them with the parking areas and the Newark Liberty International Airport rail station.
From the station, NJ Transit and Amtrak trains reach New York Penn Station and the rest of the Northeast Corridor, and express buses run into Midtown Manhattan. Most travelers head on to Manhattan, northern New Jersey or Newark itself.

Check which terminal you land at before you leave the plane: Terminal A, B or C. Each has its own arrivals area, and drivers meet you at your terminal.
If you arrive on an international flight, you clear US Customs and Border Protection first. Most international arrivals on foreign airlines, and some United and JetBlue flights, are processed in Terminal B's international arrivals hall. If you are eligible, Global Entry or Mobile Passport Control can shorten the line. Then collect your bags and pass through customs.
Domestic passengers go straight to baggage claim in their terminal.
Leaving the terminal, follow the signs for taxis, ride apps, shuttles and the AirTrain. The AirTrain is free between terminals, parking and rental cars, and runs to the airport rail station for NJ Transit and Amtrak trains. Use only the official taxi stand or your pre-booked driver.
A pre-booked transfer or taxi suits most travelers with luggage; the AirTrain and NJ Transit are the quickest public route to Manhattan.
A pre-booked driver meets you at your terminal and takes you to Manhattan, New Jersey or Long Island. The easiest option for families, groups and heavy luggage.
Taxis wait at the official stands outside each terminal. Fares to New York City are set by the NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission, plus tolls and tip.
Ride the AirTrain to the airport rail station for NJ Transit or Amtrak trains to New York Penn Station and the Northeast Corridor. Fast and avoids traffic, but you carry your bags through stations.
Express buses run to the Port Authority Bus Terminal, Bryant Park and Grand Central. Cheap, but slow in traffic.
Rental car facilities are reached by the free AirTrain from any terminal.
