Bahías de Huatulco International Airport (HUX), listed by its operator simply as Huatulco International Airport, serves Huatulco and the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, Mexico. It lies in the municipality of Santa María Huatulco, about 20 km from the resort, and is the gateway to the Bahías de Huatulco, a run of nine bays with beaches along the Costa region of Oaxaca.
Most flights connect Huatulco with Mexico City, on Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobus and Volaris, with further domestic routes to Guadalajara, Monterrey and Puebla and short hops to the city of Oaxaca on small regional airlines. In winter, WestJet and Air Canada fly in from Canadian cities, American Eagle from Dallas/Fort Worth and TAG Airlines from Guatemala City.
All flights use one single-storey terminal, recognizable by its roofs of dried palm leaves in the style of a beach palapa. It has eight gates and handles both domestic and international flights, with car rental desks and a bus terminal for shuttles and transfers to the resorts on site.

The terminal is a single storey, so arriving is quick. On an international flight, including the winter flights from Canada and the United States, you pass Mexican immigration first; have your passport ready, together with any documents your nationality requires. Domestic passengers go straight to baggage claim.
Collect your bags at the carousel for your flight, and report missing or damaged luggage at your airline's desk before leaving the hall. International passengers then go through customs.
In the public area you will find car-rental desks and the airport's bus terminal, where shuttles and transfers to the resorts leave from. Turn down unsolicited offers of transport inside the terminal if you already have a booking; pre-booked drivers wait at the meeting point in your confirmation.
The resort is about 20 km away, so have a way to reach your driver, such as mobile data or roaming, before you land.
With the resort about 20 km away, a pre-booked transfer or the airport shuttles suit most travelers.
A driver meets you at the terminal and takes you straight to your hotel in Tangolunda, La Crucecita, Santa Cruz or any of the bays. The most comfortable choice with luggage or a group.
Shuttles leave from the airport's own bus terminal to resorts in the region. Cheaper per person, but you share the vehicle and wait for other passengers.
Taxis serve the terminal for trips to Huatulco and nearby towns, without booking ahead.
Car-rental desks operate at the terminal, useful for exploring the bays and the Oaxaca coast.

Huatulco's airport uses the IATA code HUX and the ICAO code MMBT. Its full name is Bahías de Huatulco International Airport, though its operator, ASUR, lists it simply as Huatulco International Airport. Search flights to HUX, and do not confuse it with Puerto Escondido (PXM), a separate airport farther west along the Oaxaca coast.
Huatulco airport is about 20 km from the resort town of Huatulco, in the municipality of Santa María Huatulco. Hotels are spread across the nine bays, including Tangolunda, Santa Cruz and the town of La Crucecita, so the exact distance depends on where you stay. Pre-booked transfers and the airport shuttles cover the whole resort area.
Aeroméxico, Viva Aerobus and Volaris fly to Huatulco year-round, mainly from Mexico City, with further routes from Guadalajara, Monterrey and Puebla. Small regional airlines link it with the city of Oaxaca. In winter, WestJet and Air Canada add flights from Canada, American Eagle flies from Dallas/Fort Worth and TAG Airlines from Guatemala City.
Yes. Small regional airlines, including Aerotucán and Aerovega, fly between the city of Oaxaca and Huatulco on light aircraft, a much shorter trip than the drive across the mountains. Seats are limited and luggage allowances are smaller than on larger airlines, so check the baggage rules before you book.
Yes. Huatulco airport has one VIP lounge, The Lounge by Global Lounge Network, in the terminal. Entry depends on your ticket, a lounge membership or paid access, and hours follow the flight schedule, which is busiest in the winter high season. Check the conditions directly with the lounge before you fly.
A common guideline is to arrive at least two hours before a domestic flight and three hours before an international flight from Huatulco. The terminal is small, but several flights can leave close together in the winter season, and the drive from the bays takes time. Always follow your airline's own recommendation for your flight.
