About Singapore Changi Airport

Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) is the main international airport of Singapore, at the eastern end of the island. It is the home base of Singapore Airlines and its low-cost subsidiary Scoot, and more than 100 airlines link it with about 170 cities. Its busiest routes run to Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Bali and Hong Kong, and long-haul flights reach Europe, North America, Australia and the Middle East.

Changi has four passenger terminals, T1 to T4. Terminals 1, 2 and 3 are linked by the free Skytrain and connect to Jewel, a mall and garden complex next to T1, while T4 is reached by shuttle bus. Terminal 5 is under construction and not yet open.

The airport is about 24 km east of the city center. A taxi to the Marina Bay and City Hall area takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and the MRT station between T2 and T3 connects to the East West Line.

From Changi, most travelers head to Marina Bay, the Orchard Road area, Chinatown, Sentosa and the cruise terminals, or travel on to Johor Bahru across the border in Malaysia.

Arrival tips for Singapore Changi Airport

All foreign visitors must submit the free SG Arrival Card on the ICA website or the MyICA app within three days before arrival, including the day you land. Immigration at Changi uses automated lanes for many passport holders, and the arrival halls for T1 to T4 are signposted from the gate.

Baggage claim comes right after immigration, followed by customs. Check which terminal your flight uses, as each has its own arrival hall and transport exits.

Once in the arrival hall, follow the signs to the taxi stand, the MRT (from T2 and T3) or the public bus stops. Private cars and ride-hailing vehicles pick up at the marked Arrival Pick-up areas of each terminal, such as Basement 1 at T1 and T3. Drivers may not wait at the kerb, so check where your driver will meet you. A Ground Transport Concierge counter in every arrival hall can arrange a car.

Singapore is hot and humid all year, with frequent afternoon showers. Local time is Singapore Standard Time (UTC+8) and the currency is the Singapore dollar (SGD).

Ground transportation

Taxis are the most direct option for most travelers, while the MRT suits those traveling light during the day.

  • Taxi from Changi Airport

Metered taxis queue at the taxi stands of each terminal around the clock. The ride to the city center takes about 20 to 30 minutes, and surcharges apply at night.

  • MRT to the city

Changi Airport station sits between T2 and T3. Take the train to Tanah Merah and change to the East West Line; City Hall is about 40 minutes away. Trains run from about 5:30 am to about 11:20 pm.

  • Rideshare

Grab and other ride-hailing apps pick up at the Arrival Pick-up areas, such as Basement 1 at T1 and T3, Level 1 at T2, and Doors 4 to 8 at T4. Surge pricing can apply at busy times.

  • Private transfer

Pre-booked cars meet passengers in the arrival hall, and the Ground Transport Concierge counter in each terminal can arrange a vehicle on the spot. This suits families and travelers with bulky luggage.

  • Bus 36 to Orchard Road

Public bus 36 runs from the underground bus terminal at T2 past Marina Bay to hotels on Orchard Road in about 30 to 40 minutes. It is a regular public bus that stops often, so it is slower than a taxi.

Which terminal does Singapore Airlines use at Changi?

Singapore Airlines uses Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Flights to Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea and parts of South Asia generally use T2, while long-haul flights to Europe, the United States, Canada and Oceania use T3. Its low-cost subsidiary Scoot uses T1. Always check your booking, as assignments can change.

How do I get between terminals at Changi Airport?

The free Skytrain links T1, T2 and T3 in both public and transit areas and runs from about 5 am until about 2 am. You can also walk between T2 and T3 on a link bridge or between T1 and T3 by travelator. Terminal 4 is reached by a free shuttle bus, about 10 minutes from T2.

Where are the taxis at Changi Airport?

Each terminal has a signposted taxi stand outside its arrival hall, and taxis operate 24 hours. Singapore taxis are metered and regulated, with surcharges at night and at peak times. The ride to the city center takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Follow the official taxi signs instead of accepting offers inside the terminal.

Can I take the MRT from Changi Airport?

Yes. Changi Airport MRT station is underground between T2 and T3. Trains run to Tanah Merah, where you change to the East West Line towards City Hall, about 40 minutes in total. Service runs from about 5:30 am until about 11:20 pm, so late arrivals need a taxi or car.

Where do Grab and ride-hailing cars pick up at Changi?

Ride-hailing cars use each terminal's Arrival Pick-up area: Basement 1 at T1 and T3, Level 1 at T2, and Level 1 Doors 4 to 8 at T4. Drivers cannot wait at the kerb, so book once you have your bags and head to the marked pick-up point for your terminal.

Do I need an SG Arrival Card for Singapore?

Yes. All travelers entering Singapore by air must submit the SG Arrival Card, including a health declaration, within three days before arrival, counting the day of arrival. It is free on the ICA website or the MyICA mobile app. Passengers transiting without clearing immigration do not need to submit one.

How do I get from Changi Airport to Johor Bahru, Malaysia?

Johor Bahru lies across the Johor Strait from northern Singapore. Travelers reach it by road through the Woodlands or Tuas checkpoints, clearing Singapore and Malaysian immigration on the way. Taxis, private cars and cross-border coaches make the trip, and journey time depends heavily on queues at the checkpoints, especially at weekends.

What is the weather, time zone and currency in Singapore?

Singapore has a tropical climate that is hot and humid all year, with frequent showers, especially in the afternoon. It uses Singapore Standard Time (UTC+8) with no daylight saving time. The currency is the Singapore dollar (SGD), and cards and contactless payments are accepted almost everywhere.

How busy is Singapore Changi Airport?

Changi handled about 70 million passenger movements in 2025, its highest ever and 3.4 percent more than in 2024. More than 100 airlines serve about 170 cities. Its top markets are China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and India. The airport is run by Changi Airport Group and has three runways.

What is Jewel Changi Airport?

Jewel is a mall, garden and leisure complex that opened in 2019 next to Terminal 1. It connects on foot to T1, T2 and T3 and houses shops, restaurants, a hotel and the indoor Rain Vortex waterfall. It sits in the public area, so arriving passengers can visit it after clearing immigration.
