Main Terminal
Handles all scheduled international and domestic passenger flights. Arrivals pass immigration and customs before reaching the ground transportation hall.
Also known as: Montego Bay Airport, MBJ Airport, Sangster Airport.
MBJ · MKJS · Montego Bay

Sangster International Airport (MBJ) serves Montego Bay on the north coast of Jamaica and is the island's main arrival point for visitors. It handled about 5.1 million passengers in 2024.
Most flights come from the United States and Canada, with American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, WestJet and Air Canada among the main carriers. Flights also arrive from the United Kingdom and Europe with TUI Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Condor and Edelweiss, and from Latin America with Copa Airlines, Wingo and LATAM. Small regional carriers link MBJ with Kingston and Negril.
The airport has one main passenger terminal with an eastern concourse for departures, and a ground transportation hall where taxi, transfer and tour desks sit after customs. A single runway of about 3,060 meters runs along the coast.
The airport sits about 3 miles (4.8 km) east of downtown Montego Bay, and the hotels and bars of the Hip Strip on Gloucester Avenue are in town. From here, travelers head west to Negril, about 50 miles away, or east along the A1 coast highway to Ocho Rios, about 97 km away.

You can fill in Jamaica's Immigration/Customs Declaration (C5) form online up to 30 days before arrival; with the confirmation you go to a kiosk, scan your passport and take the receipt to an officer, and visitors should also carry a return ticket. If you did not fill it in ahead, tablets and staff in the immigration hall can help, though the line is longer.
After immigration, collect your bags and choose a customs line: nothing to declare, items to declare, or special assistance.
Past customs you reach the ground transportation hall. Customer service staff point you to your hotel lounge or transfer company, and each transfer and tour operator has a numbered desk here. Licensed taxis from JUTA and JCAL share the Authorised Airport Taxi desk just outside the customs exit; ignore drivers who approach you unprompted.
Montego Bay is warm all year, and hurricane season runs June to November. Jamaica uses Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5) all year, and the currency is the Jamaican dollar, with US dollars widely accepted.
Most visitors use a pre-arranged transfer or an authorised taxi from the ground transportation hall.
JUTA and JCAL run the Authorised Airport Taxi desk just outside the customs exit. These are licensed operators, which avoids unregistered drivers, but agree the trip details before leaving.
Transfer and tour companies have numbered desks in the ground transportation hall, and staff direct you to yours after customs. It is the most direct option for Negril or Ocho Rios, but it needs arranging in advance.
The Knutsford Express coach service departs from the airport to towns including Negril, about 1.5 hours away. It runs on a fixed timetable, so it suits travelers with light luggage and flexible timing.
Uber operates in Montego Bay, but driver supply at the airport varies. Follow the in-app meeting point and check the driver's name and plate before getting in.
Rental companies serve the airport. Jamaica drives on the left, and parking can be hard to find in Negril.

Sangster International Airport is about 3 miles (4.8 km) east of downtown Montego Bay. The Hip Strip, the stretch of hotels, bars and beaches along Gloucester Avenue, is in Montego Bay itself, so it is a short drive from the terminal. Negril and Ocho Rios are much farther, at roughly 1.5 hours each by road.
Yes. Sangster International Airport is on the eastern edge of Montego Bay in the parish of St. James, on Jamaica's north coast. It is the main airport for visitors to the north and west of the island, including Negril and Ocho Rios, while Norman Manley International Airport serves Kingston in the south.
Sangster International Airport has one main passenger terminal. Departing passengers use the eastern concourse for their gates, and arriving passengers pass through immigration and customs into a ground transportation hall. All scheduled airlines use this same terminal, so there is no transfer between terminals to plan for.
Main airlines include American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Air Canada, WestJet and Air Transat. TUI Airways and Virgin Atlantic fly from the United Kingdom, Copa Airlines from Panama, Wingo from Colombia, and several European carriers add seasonal flights. All use the one main terminal.
Licensed taxis are run by JUTA and JCAL, which share the Authorised Airport Taxi desk just outside the customs exit. Go to the desk rather than accepting offers from drivers who approach you in the hall or at the curb. Confirm your destination and the trip details with the dispatcher before you leave the airport.
Yes. The Knutsford Express coach service departs from the airport to towns across Jamaica, including Negril, about 1.5 hours away. Public buses also run from the airport area to Negril and take around two hours. Both run on timetables, so check departure times before you land.
Uber operates in Montego Bay, but the number of available drivers at the airport varies. Open the app after you clear customs, follow the in-app meeting instructions, and check the driver's name, car and plate before getting in. For early or time-critical trips, a pre-arranged transfer or authorised taxi is more reliable.
Yes. Visitors complete Jamaica's Immigration/Customs Declaration (C5) form, which you can fill in online up to 30 days before arrival. With the confirmation you go straight to a kiosk to scan your passport. Visitors also need a valid passport and a return ticket. You can still complete the form on arrival.
Negril is about 80 km (50 miles) west of Sangster International Airport. The drive usually takes between 1 hour 15 minutes and 1 hour 45 minutes, depending on traffic. The Knutsford Express coach takes about 1.5 hours, and International AirLink also flies small aircraft from MBJ to Negril.
Ocho Rios is about 97 km east of Sangster International Airport. The drive takes about an hour and a half along the A1 highway, which follows the north coast through several resort towns. Travel times can be longer at busy times of day or in heavy rain.
Montego Bay is on Eastern Standard Time (UTC-5) all year, because Jamaica does not use daylight saving time. The currency is the Jamaican dollar, and US dollars are widely accepted at hotels and in tourist areas. The weather is warm all year, with hurricane season from June to November.
The airport is operated by MBJ Airports Limited, part of Mexico's Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico, under a concession from the Airports Authority of Jamaica. It handled about 5.1 million passengers in 2024 and about 4.5 million in 2025, when traffic dropped after Hurricane Melissa.
