Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) is the older of the two international airports serving Beijing, China. It is the main hub of Air China and a base for Hainan Airlines and Beijing Capital Airlines, with flights across China and to Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. Foreign airlines connect it with cities such as Paris, Istanbul, Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, Bangkok, San Francisco and Vancouver.
Passenger flights use Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, the larger of the two. The old Terminal 1 building reopened in 2023 as a satellite wing of Terminal 2. A free shuttle bus and the Airport Express rail line link the terminals.
The airport sits in Shunyi District, about 32 km northeast of downtown Beijing. It should not be confused with Beijing Daxing International Airport (PKX), which lies far to the south of the city and serves other airlines, so check the code on your ticket.
From the airport, most travelers head to central Beijing around the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square, the Wangfujing and Sanlitun districts, Beijing South Railway Station for high-speed trains, and the Great Wall sections north of the city such as Mutianyu.

Before landing, fill in China's online arrival card through the NIA 12367 app, the National Immigration Administration website or its WeChat or Alipay mini program; paper cards and kiosks are also available at immigration. Nationals on China's visa-free list can stay up to 30 days through 31 December 2026, eligible transit passengers can use the 240-hour visa-free transit with an onward ticket to a third country, and everyone else needs a visa.
After passport control, collect your bags in the baggage hall and pass through customs into arrivals. At Terminal 3, international arrivals reach the main building on the automated train from concourse T3E.
Outside, follow the taxi signs to the official queue at the curb, or head to the Airport Express station inside the terminal. If you booked a driver, meet them in the arrivals hall. Ignore people inside the hall who offer rides, and use only the marked taxi queue.
Beijing has hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Local time is China Standard Time (UTC+8, no daylight saving), and the currency is the renminbi (yuan, CNY); mobile payment with Alipay or WeChat Pay is widely used.
The Airport Express suits most travelers heading to central Beijing, while taxis are easier with heavy luggage or late at night.
Use the official taxi queue outside Terminals 2 and 3. The ride to central Beijing takes about 45 to 90 minutes depending on traffic, and the queue can be long late at night.
The Airport Express line runs from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 to Sanyuanqiao, Dongzhimen and Beixinqiao, where it connects with the Beijing Subway. The ride takes about 20 to 30 minutes, but you may need to change lines with luggage.
Airport bus lines leave from outside Terminals 2 and 3 for places such as Beijing Railway Station, Xidan, Zhongguancun and Beijing South and West railway stations. Journeys take about 1 to 2 hours, and service thins out late at night.
DiDi works through its own app or as a mini program inside Alipay and WeChat. Set the pickup to the airport's marked ride-hailing point, which is separate from the taxi queue.
A pre-booked driver meets you in the arrivals hall and takes you straight to your address, which helps with luggage, groups or late arrivals, but it needs booking in advance.

No. Beijing Capital (PEK) is northeast of the city, while Beijing Daxing (PKX) is a separate, newer airport far to the south. Airlines are split between them, and transferring between the two takes a long road or rail trip, so always check the three-letter code on your ticket and booking.
Passenger flights use two terminals, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. The former Terminal 1 building reopened in 2023 as a satellite wing of Terminal 2. Terminal 3 is the largest and is split into concourses T3C, T3D and T3E, linked by an automated train.

The Great Wall sections most visited from Beijing, such as Mutianyu, lie north of the city, and the airport's northeast location puts them within reach by road without crossing central Beijing. Most travelers go by taxi or a pre-arranged car, since public transport to the wall requires several changes.
Airport buses run from outside Terminals 2 and 3 to Beijing South Railway Station, the terminus for high-speed trains to Shanghai and Tianjin. You can also take the Airport Express into the city and change to the subway. A taxi is the simplest option with heavy luggage.
