Calgary International Airport (YYC) is the airport for Calgary, Alberta, in western Canada, and the usual gateway to Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies. It sits about 17 km (11 miles) northeast of downtown Calgary, reached by Deerfoot Trail and Stoney Trail.
WestJet has its home base here and flies the largest network, across Canada, to the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, and to Europe and Asia. Air Canada links Calgary with Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver and London, and Flair, Porter, United, Delta, American, Alaska, KLM, Condor, Discover and Edelweiss add more routes. The airport handled a record 19.4 million passengers in 2025.
One connected building holds two terminals: the Domestic Terminal, with concourses A, B and C, and the International Terminal, with Concourse D for international flights and Concourse E for flights to the United States, which clear US preclearance before boarding.
From the airport, most travelers head into downtown Calgary or west along the Trans-Canada Highway to Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise, about 130 km (80 miles) and roughly 90 minutes to Banff, or to Kananaskis Country.

If you arrive from outside Canada, you clear Canadian border services in the International Terminal, where Advance Declaration in the ArriveCAN app and the border kiosks can speed up the process, then a border officer. Most visitors from visa-exempt countries need an approved eTA before flying to Canada; US citizens do not.
Arrivals are on the lower level of the building. Domestic flights reach baggage claim in the Domestic Terminal, while international and US flights collect bags and exit through customs into the International Terminal arrivals area, so tell anyone meeting you which kind of flight you are on. Information desks and Customer Care Ambassadors are on the arrivals level near Door 7.
Outside, Calgary Transit buses, taxis and rideshare pickups are signposted from the arrivals level, and the car rental center is across from the terminals. If you are heading to Banff or Lake Louise, plan for a Parks Canada pass. Calgary is on Mountain Time and uses the Canadian dollar.
A taxi or pre-booked car is simplest into Calgary; for Banff and the mountains, choose between scheduled coaches and a private transfer.
Route 100 runs to Saddletowne CTrain station and North Pointe, and an express route serves downtown via Centre Street, from bays outside the arrivals level. Cheap, but you carry your bags and may change to the CTrain.
Metered taxis wait outside the arrivals level and go door to door to downtown, usually in 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour.
Uber and other ride apps pick up at zones set by each app outside the terminal. Fares rise at busy times.
Scheduled coaches run year-round to Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise, and to Jasper in summer only. Set departure times, so you may wait after landing.
A pre-booked car meets you in arrivals, useful for families, ski groups and trips to Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise and Kananaskis.
On-site rental companies are across from the terminals; off-site companies run courtesy shuttles from the arrivals level. A Parks Canada pass is needed to stop in Banff National Park.

Calgary International Airport is about 17 km (11 miles) northeast of downtown Calgary. The drive along Deerfoot Trail usually takes 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour. Brewster Express coaches run year-round on a set timetable, and a rental car or private transfer takes you straight to your hotel. Everyone stopping in Banff National Park needs a Parks Canada pass.
Yes. Parks Canada says everyone visiting Banff National Park, including the towns of Banff and Lake Louise, needs a valid park pass, whether you drive or arrive by shuttle. You can buy a daily pass or an annual Discovery Pass online before you travel, or at the park gates on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Lake Louise is about 185 km (115 miles) west of the airport, roughly two hours by road: through Canmore and Banff, then 45 minutes on along the Trans-Canada Highway. Brewster Express coaches run there year-round, and a rental car or private transfer takes you to your hotel. Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles.
Canmore is about 105 km (65 miles) west of the airport, roughly 75 minutes by road on the Trans-Canada Highway, just outside the Banff National Park gate. Because the town is outside the national park, you do not need a Parks Canada pass to stay there, though you will if you continue into Banff.

WestJet has its home base in Calgary and flies the most routes, across Canada and to the US, Mexico, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. Air Canada, Flair and Porter fly domestic routes, United, Delta, American and Alaska fly to US hubs, and KLM, Condor, Discover and Edelweiss fly to Europe.
Yes. Calgary Transit buses stop at bays on the arrivals level of both terminals. Route 100 runs to Saddletowne CTrain station and North Pointe, and an express route serves downtown via Centre Street. There is no train to the airport, so travelers with heavy luggage often prefer a taxi or pre-booked car.

After collecting bags you exit through customs into the arrivals area. Most visa-exempt visitors need an eTA before flying.
