Terminal 1
The newer terminal, opened in December 2014, on three levels with 72 check-in counters and 20 gates. It handles international scheduled and charter flights.
Also known as: Hurghada Airport, HRG Airport.
HRG · HEGN · Hurghada
Hurghada International Airport (HRG) is the airport for Hurghada and the resorts of Egypt's Red Sea coast, from El Gouna in the north to Sahl Hasheesh, Makadi Bay and Soma Bay in the south. It is Egypt's second-busiest airport after Cairo and handled about 9.6 million passengers in 2024.
Most flights are international and many are seasonal or charter. Air Cairo has the largest network, linking Hurghada with Cairo, Luxor and cities across Germany, Italy and Central Europe. Condor, TUI fly, Eurowings, easyJet, TUI Airways, Transavia, Wizz Air, Norwegian and Edelweiss bring travelers from Germany, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Switzerland, while Egyptair flies to Cairo and Aeroflot, AJet, Pegasus, Saudia and Flynas connect Hurghada with Russia, Istanbul and Saudi Arabia.
The airport has two separate terminal buildings, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, and two parallel runways.
It stands inland, about 5 km (3 miles) southwest of El Dahar, Hurghada's old town center. The hotels along Sheraton Road, Sekalla and the Village Road strip are a short drive away, El Gouna is about 30 to 35 minutes north, and Makadi Bay and Soma Bay lie about 25 to 45 minutes south along the coast road.

Most travelers need a visa for Egypt. If you have not got an e-Visa in advance, buy a visa-on-arrival sticker at the bank counters in the arrivals hall before you join the passport control line; the same counters change money.
At passport control, show your passport with the visa. Lines can be long when several charter flights land together, so keep your passport, visa and hotel address at hand.
After passport control, collect your bags at baggage claim and pass through customs. Drones need a permit in Egypt, so leave them at home unless you have one.
Only travelers may enter the terminal, so drivers, hotel staff and tour representatives wait outside the arrivals exit. Taxis wait at the curb, and ride-hailing pickups are arranged in the app. If someone offers you a ride or help with your bags, a firm "no, thank you" is enough.
Egypt uses the Egyptian pound and is on Eastern European Time.
A pre-booked transfer or a hotel transfer suits most travelers, since the resorts are spread along the coast.
Taxis wait at the curb outside arrivals. Agree the fare before you get in, as meters are rarely used, and the ride to central Hurghada takes about 15 minutes.
Uber operates at Hurghada airport and can be reserved for your landing time. Waits can be longer at night and during busy charter arrivals.
Many package travelers are met by their tour operator or hotel outside the arrivals exit, often on a shared coach that stops at several hotels.
A pre-booked driver meets you outside the arrivals exit and drives you straight to your hotel in Hurghada, El Gouna, Makadi Bay, Sahl Hasheesh or Soma Bay.
International and local car rental companies serve the airport. Driving is easiest on the main coast road; city traffic in Hurghada can be hectic.

Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are separate buildings with no airside connection, so allow extra time if you need to change terminals.
A taxi from the curb outside either terminal is the simplest way across, especially with luggage.
You can walk between the buildings along the airport roads, but it is a long walk outside in the heat and not practical with bags.
The two terminals are separate buildings. Check your booking or your airline for the terminal you fly from, as charter allocations can change by season.

The older terminal, renovated and reopened in 2019, with 72 check-in counters and airbridge and remote gates. It also handles international and charter flights.
Many routes are seasonal or charter, and terminal allocations change by season, so check the terminal on your ticket.

Hurghada International Airport is about 5 km (3 miles) southwest of El Dahar, the old town center, and the drive takes about 15 minutes. The hotels on Sheraton Road, in Sekalla and along the Village Road strip are also close, usually 10 to 25 minutes away depending on traffic and where you are staying.
El Gouna is about 30 km north of Hurghada airport, a drive of about 30 to 35 minutes along the coast road. There is no public train, so travelers usually take a taxi, a hotel transfer or a pre-booked private car. El Gouna's hotels and marinas are spread out, so give the driver your full hotel name.
Sahl Hasheesh is about 20 minutes south of Hurghada airport and Makadi Bay about 25 to 30 minutes, both along the coast road toward Safaga. Soma Bay is further on, about 40 to 45 minutes away. Most travelers reach these resorts by hotel transfer, taxi or pre-booked private car.
Hurghada airport has two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, in separate buildings. Terminal 1 opened in 2014 with 72 check-in counters and 20 gates, and Terminal 2 was renovated and reopened in 2019. Both handle international and charter flights, so check your ticket or ask your airline which terminal you use.
Most visitors need a visa for Egypt. Many nationalities can buy a visa on arrival at the bank counters in the arrivals hall before passport control, or apply online for an e-Visa at visa2egypt.gov.eg before they fly. Your passport should be valid for at least six months, so check the rules for your nationality before you travel.
Visas on arrival are sold at the bank counters in the arrivals hall, before you reach passport control. You pay in cash, usually in US dollars or euros, and receive a sticker for your passport. If you already have an e-Visa, skip the counters and go straight to the passport control line with your printout.
Air Cairo has the largest network at Hurghada, with flights to Cairo, Luxor and many German and Central European cities. Condor, TUI fly, Eurowings, easyJet, TUI Airways, Wizz Air, Transavia and Norwegian bring travelers from across Europe, Egyptair flies to Cairo, and Aeroflot, Pegasus, AJet, Saudia and Flynas serve Russia, Istanbul and Saudi Arabia.
Yes. Taxis wait at the curb outside the arrivals exit of both terminals. Meters are rarely used, so agree the fare with the driver before you get in and have the hotel name and area ready. Uber also operates at the airport and can be reserved in advance for your landing time.
There is no regular public bus service designed for airport passengers at Hurghada. Package travelers are usually met by their tour operator's coach, and independent travelers take a taxi, Uber or a pre-booked transfer. Local microbuses run on the main roads in town, but they are not practical with luggage.
Yes. The Pearl Lounge in Terminal 1 is airside past passport control and security, near Gate 30 on the second floor, and is open around the clock. Priority Pass members can use it, with a maximum stay of three hours. Check the current access rules before you travel, as conditions can change.
Not without a permit. Egypt restricts drones, and customs can hold a drone found in your luggage when you arrive. If you want to film from the air, arrange the permit well before you travel; otherwise leave the drone at home and rely on your phone or camera for photos.
Hurghada is on Egypt's time, Eastern European Time (UTC+2), and switches to UTC+3 for summer daylight saving time. Flights from Western Europe arrive one or two hours ahead of the time at home, so set your watch on landing and check your hotel check-in time and pickup time in local time.
Yes, by road, but Marsa Alam is about 270 km south of Hurghada, a drive of roughly three and a half to four hours. Marsa Alam has its own international airport, so if you are staying near Marsa Alam, check whether a flight into that airport would be closer to your hotel.
