Newcastle International Airport (NCL) is the airport for Newcastle upon Tyne and North East England, and it also serves travelers heading for Cumbria and the Scottish Borders. It stands at Woolsington, about 7.7 miles (12.4 km) northwest of Newcastle city center.
Most flights go to Europe and the Mediterranean. Jet2.com, easyJet, Ryanair and TUI Airways fly the widest range of routes, to the Spanish islands, Portugal, Greece, Turkey and cities across Europe, with TUI adding seasonal long-haul flights to the Caribbean, Mexico and Florida. Emirates flies to Dubai, KLM and Air France connect through Amsterdam and Paris, British Airways flies to London Heathrow and Aer Lingus to Dublin. The airport handled about 5.5 million passengers in 2025.
All flights use one terminal, with check-in and arrivals on the ground floor and a single security area leading to the departure lounge and gates. The Tyne and Wear Metro station stands next to the terminal.
From the airport, most travelers head into Newcastle city center and the Quayside, across the river to Gateshead, or on to Sunderland, Durham and the coast at Tynemouth. Others continue north into Northumberland or to the Port of Tyne at North Shields for the ferry to Amsterdam.
