About Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković Airport

Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković Airport (DBV) is the airport for Dubrovnik, Croatia, located near the village of Čilipi in the Konavle area south-east of the city. It handled about 3.09 million passengers in 2025.

Croatia Airlines flies here all year from Zagreb, Frankfurt and Rome, and Trade Air links the airport with Split, Rijeka and Osijek. Most other traffic is seasonal: easyJet, Jet2.com, TUI Airways and British Airways connect to many UK airports, while Ryanair, Wizz Air, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Turkish Airlines and others serve cities across Europe. United Airlines flies seasonally to Newark.

Passengers use one combined building: Terminal B handles arrivals and Terminal C handles check-in, security and all departure gates. The older Terminal A is no longer used by passengers.

The airport is about 22.5 km by road from Dubrovnik, a drive of about 30 to 35 minutes that can take up to an hour in summer traffic. Cavtat lies much closer to the airport than the city does.

From here, travelers head to Dubrovnik Old Town, the Lapad and Babin Kuk hotel areas, the Gruž ferry and cruise port, Cavtat and the rest of Konavle, the Pelješac peninsula and Montenegro's Bay of Kotor.

Arrival tips for Dubrovnik Ruđer Bošković Airport

Croatia is part of the Schengen Area, so flights from other Schengen countries arrive without passport control, while passengers from the UK and other non-Schengen airports pass through border checks. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation.

Baggage claim and the arrivals hall are in Terminal B. The hall is compact, and in summer several flights often land close together, so expect queues at passport control on busy afternoons.

Outside Terminal B you will find the licensed taxi rank directly in front of the building; drivers must give you a receipt. The Platanus airport shuttle leaves from outside arrivals about 30 minutes after each flight lands. Pre-booked drivers wait in the arrivals hall holding a name sign. Use the licensed taxi queue rather than drivers who approach you inside the terminal.

Dubrovnik summers are hot and dry, and winters are mild and wetter. Croatia uses the euro and is on Central European Time, moving to summer time from late March to late October.

Ground transportation

The airport shuttle suits most travelers heading to the Old Town or Gruž, while a taxi or private transfer works better for Lapad, Cavtat or late arrivals.

  • Airport shuttle bus (Platanus)

The official shuttle leaves from outside arrivals about 30 minutes after each flight lands and stops at Ploče Gate by the Old Town (about 30 minutes) and Gruž bus station (about 35 minutes). It does not stop at Pile Gate, and summer traffic can add time.

  • Taxi from Dubrovnik airport

Licensed taxis wait directly in front of Terminal B arrivals, with the official fare list posted at the entrance. The drive to Dubrovnik takes about 30 to 35 minutes, or up to an hour in peak summer traffic.

  • Rideshare

Uber operates at Dubrovnik Airport and is requested through the app after landing. Cars cannot enter the pedestrian Old Town, so expect a short walk from the nearest drop-off point.

  • Private transfer

Pre-booked drivers meet passengers in the arrivals hall and take them straight to hotels or villas, including Cavtat and the Gruž cruise port. It needs to be arranged before you fly.

  • Local bus (Libertas)

Libertas city bus lines 11, 27 and 38 serve the airport daily. They make more stops than the shuttle and are better suited to light luggage.

  • Rental car

Many rental companies have desks at the airport. A car is useful for Konavle, Pelješac or Montenegro, but parking near the Old Town is limited.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Dubrovnik airport from the Old Town?

Dubrovnik Airport is about 22.5 km by road from Dubrovnik. The drive usually takes 30 to 35 minutes, but in July and August traffic on the coastal road can stretch it to about an hour. The airport shuttle reaches Ploče Gate, next to the Old Town, in about 30 minutes in normal traffic.

Is Dubrovnik airport in Dubrovnik?

No. The airport is near the village of Čilipi in the Konavle municipality, south-east of Dubrovnik and inland from Cavtat. It is outside the city, so arriving passengers need a shuttle, bus, taxi, rideshare or transfer to reach the Old Town, Lapad or the Gruž port area.

How many terminals does Dubrovnik airport have?

Passengers use one combined building. Terminal B handles all arrivals, and Terminal C, opened in 2017, handles check-in, security and the 16 departure gates. The older Terminal A is closed to passengers and is now used only for baggage sorting, so there is no need to change terminals.

Which airlines fly to Dubrovnik airport?

Croatia Airlines flies year-round to Zagreb, Frankfurt and Rome, and Trade Air links Split, Rijeka and Osijek. In the summer season easyJet, Jet2.com, Ryanair, British Airways, Wizz Air, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Norwegian, Vueling and others add many European routes, and United Airlines flies seasonally to Newark.

Where are taxis at Dubrovnik airport?

Licensed taxis wait directly in front of Terminal B, where arriving passengers exit. The official fare list is posted on a notice board at the arrivals entrance, and drivers are legally required to issue a receipt. Use the taxi queue outside rather than accepting offers from people who approach you inside the terminal.

Is there a bus from Dubrovnik airport to the Old Town?

Yes. The Platanus airport shuttle leaves from outside arrivals about 30 minutes after each flight lands. It stops at Ploče Gate by the Old Town after about 30 minutes and ends at Gruž bus station after about 35 minutes. Libertas city bus lines 11, 27 and 38 also serve the airport daily.

Does the airport shuttle stop at Pile Gate?

No. According to the operator, the airport shuttle stops at Ploče Gate, on the eastern side of the Old Town, and then continues to Gruž bus station. Pile Gate is on the opposite, western side of the walls, so travelers staying near Pile can walk through the Old Town or take a city bus from Ploče.

Can I use Uber at Dubrovnik airport?

Yes. Uber operates at Dubrovnik Airport, and rides are requested through the app after you land. Drivers cannot enter the car-free Old Town, so the nearest drop-off point usually leaves a short walk to the gates. In peak summer, waiting times and traffic on the coastal road can both increase.

What do I need to enter Croatia at Dubrovnik airport?

Croatia is in the Schengen Area, so passengers arriving from non-Schengen countries such as the UK go through passport control. Non-EU travelers are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), fully operational since 10 April 2026; the planned ETIAS travel authorization is not yet in operation. Check visa rules for your nationality before travel.

How do I get from Dubrovnik airport to the cruise port?

Dubrovnik's cruise and ferry port is in Gruž, west of the Old Town. The airport shuttle ends at Gruž bus station, about 35 minutes from the airport, and the bus station is a short walk from the port. A taxi or pre-booked transfer can take you directly to the terminal with luggage.

How do I get from Dubrovnik airport to Cavtat?

Cavtat is much closer to the airport than Dubrovnik is, so the trip is short by road. Taxis from the rank outside Terminal B, Uber and pre-booked transfers all go there directly. The airport shuttle runs only toward Ploče Gate and Gruž, so it is not a direct option for Cavtat.

What currency and time zone does Dubrovnik use?

Croatia has used the euro since January 2023. Dubrovnik is on Central European Time (UTC+1) and switches to summer time (UTC+2) from late March to late October. Summers are hot and dry, which is when most flights operate, while winters are mild and wetter.

How busy is Dubrovnik airport?

Dubrovnik Airport handled about 3.09 million passengers in 2025, passing three million in a year for the first time. Traffic is strongly seasonal, with most flights between spring and autumn. The airport is run by Dubrovnik Airport Ltd. and has one 3,300 m runway.
