About Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), often called Roissy, is the main international airport for Paris, France. It lies in Roissy-en-France, about 23 km northeast of central Paris, and handled about 72 million passengers in 2025.

Air France runs its hub here, with flights across Europe and to the Americas, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Delta, United and American Airlines fly in from several US cities, Air Canada and WestJet from Canada, and easyJet runs a large short-haul network. Most Gulf and Asian airlines also serve CDG.

The airport has three terminals. Terminal 1 is the round original building, used mainly by Star Alliance airlines. Terminal 2 is a chain of halls from 2A to 2G, built around Air France and its partners. Terminal 3 handles charter and low-cost flights. The free CDGVAL train links Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Terminal 2.

Most travelers head on to central Paris, by RER B train or by road. Terminal 2 also has its own high-speed rail station, with TGV and Eurostar trains to cities across France and into Belgium and the Netherlands, and a shuttle bus runs to Disneyland Paris.

Arrival tips for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

If you fly in from outside the Schengen area, including the UK, the US and Canada, you pass border police before baggage claim. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens with biometric passports can often use the PARAFE automated gates. Non-EU visitors are registered in the EU Entry/Exit System (EES) on their first entry, which takes fingerprints and a facial photo, so allow extra time. Flights from Schengen countries skip passport control.

Collect your bags from the carousel shown for your flight. Report missing or damaged luggage at your airline's desk before you leave the baggage hall, then walk through customs: the green channel if you have nothing to declare, the red channel if you do.

CDG is spread out, and each terminal and each Terminal 2 hall from 2A to 2G has its own arrivals area. Check which one you are in before you meet anyone. Signs marked Paris par train lead to the RER B, and the CDGVAL train links the terminals. Taxis wait at the official rank outside each terminal; turn down ride offers made inside the building.

Ground transportation

For central Paris, the RER B is the cheapest option and a taxi or private transfer the simplest with luggage.

  • RER B train to Paris

Leaves from the CDG 1 station by Terminal 3 and the CDG 2 station inside Terminal 2, for Gare du Nord, Châtelet and Saint-Michel. Some trains run express via Gare du Nord. Trains get crowded at rush hour, which is hard with big suitcases.

  • TGV and Eurostar trains

The Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV station in Terminal 2 has high-speed trains to cities across France and to Belgium and the Netherlands, with no need to go into Paris first.

  • Buses

Lines 350 and 351 run to Porte de la Chapelle and Nation, and the Noctilien N140 and N143 night buses run to Gare de l'Est. The Magical Shuttle goes to Disneyland Paris. Buses are cheap but slow in traffic.

  • Taxis

Official Paris taxis wait at the marked rank outside each terminal. Fixed fares apply between CDG and central Paris; they are posted at the rank and inside the taxi.

  • Private transfer

A pre-booked driver meets you in your terminal's arrivals area and takes you straight to your hotel, Disneyland Paris or anywhere in the region. It suits families, groups and late arrivals.

  3. LISA shuttle in Terminal 2E

Frequently asked questions

How far is Charles de Gaulle Airport from central Paris?

CDG is about 23 km northeast of central Paris, in Roissy-en-France. RER B trains run from the airport to Gare du Nord, Châtelet and Saint-Michel, and taxis and private transfers go by road. Journey times by road depend heavily on traffic, which is heaviest at morning and evening rush hours.

Is Roissy the same airport as Charles de Gaulle?

Yes. Roissy is the common French name for Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, after the town of Roissy-en-France where it stands. You will see Roissy on road signs and hear it from taxi drivers. Paris's other main airport is Orly, south of the city.

Which terminal does Air France use at CDG?

Air France uses Terminal 2. Its long-haul flights mostly use Terminal 2E, flights within the Schengen area use Terminal 2F, and regional flights use Terminal 2G. Check your boarding pass, because assignments change, and allow time if you are connecting between halls.

How do I get between terminals at Charles de Gaulle?

The free CDGVAL train links Terminal 1, Terminal 3 and Terminal 2, with stops at both airport railway stations and the car parks. Terminal 2G is reached by a separate shuttle bus. Inside Terminal 2E, an airside train called LISA serves the satellite gates.

How do I get from CDG to central Paris by train?

Take the RER B from the CDG 1 station next to Terminal 3 or the CDG 2 station inside Terminal 2. Trains run to Gare du Nord, Châtelet and Saint-Michel, and some run express via Gare du Nord. Follow signs marked Paris par train.

Can I take a high-speed train from CDG to other French cities?

Yes. The Aéroport Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV station, inside Terminal 2, has TGV inOui, Ouigo and Eurostar trains to cities across France and to Belgium and the Netherlands. You do not need to go into Paris to change trains.

What is the difference between Charles de Gaulle and Orly?

CDG is the larger airport, about 23 km northeast of Paris, and handles Air France's long-haul and European network plus most foreign airlines. Orly is about 13 km south of the city and is mainly used by Transavia, easyJet, Vueling and leisure airlines. Air France moved its mainland Orly flights to CDG in March 2026.

When does the CDG Express open?

The CDG Express, a non-stop rail link between CDG and Gare de l'Est in Paris, is scheduled to open in early 2027. Until then, the RER B is the rail link between the airport and central Paris.
