Also known as: YUL Airport, Montreal Airport, Trudeau Airport, Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport, Montréal-Trudeau Airport. Formerly Montréal–Dorval International Airport, Dorval Airport.
YUL · CYUL · Montreal
Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is the main airport for Montreal, in the province of Quebec, Canada. Most people call it Montréal-Trudeau or simply YUL, and many locals still say Dorval, after the suburb where it stands, about 15 km (9 miles) west of downtown Montreal.
Air Canada has a hub here, and Air Transat, Porter and WestJet add routes across Canada, to the United States and to the Caribbean and Mexico. Air France, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc and other carriers link Montreal with Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. The airport handled about 22.4 million passengers in 2025.
All flights use one terminal building with three zones: domestic, international, and transborder for flights to the United States, where passengers clear US immigration and customs before boarding.
From the airport, most travelers head downtown and to Old Montreal, usually 20 to 40 minutes by road depending on traffic. Others go on to Laval, the Laurentians and Mont-Tremblant, or further to Ottawa and Québec City.

If you arrive from outside Canada, including from the United States, you go through Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) inspection on arrival. Have your passport ready, and your eTA or visa if your nationality needs one; US citizens do not need an eTA. You can fill in your customs declaration in advance in the ArriveCAN app. Officers may ask about the purpose of your trip and where you are staying, and waits vary a lot with the number of flights landing.
After baggage claim you walk through to the public arrivals hall on the arrivals level, the lower floor of the terminal. Signs at YUL are in French and English. Domestic passengers go straight to the baggage carousels and the exit.
Outside, the STM 747 bus to downtown runs 24 hours a day, official taxis wait at Door 23 with a dispatcher, and limousines are at Door 24. Pre-booked drivers usually meet passengers in the arrivals hall.
Montreal is on Eastern Time and uses the Canadian dollar.
The 747 bus is the cheapest way downtown at any hour; a taxi or pre-booked car is easier with luggage, at night or for addresses outside the center.
STM's 747 bus runs 24 hours a day, every day, from the arrivals level to Lionel-Groulx Métro station and on to downtown hotels on René-Lévesque Boulevard and Berri-UQAM. Buy a ticket at the machines in arrivals or pay the exact fare in coins on board; it makes several stops and can be slow in traffic.
Official taxis wait at Door 23 on the arrivals level, where a dispatcher helps you. A flat rate applies to downtown Montreal, with a higher rate at night, and cards are accepted.
Airport limousines wait at Door 24 on the arrivals level and are hired on the spot.
Ride-hailing pickups are on the arrivals level and at the P4 Express area, as shown in the app; waits can grow at peak times.
VIA Rail runs a free shuttle for its train passengers from the departures level to Dorval station, a few minutes away, for trains to Ottawa, Toronto and Québec City.
A pre-booked car meets you in the arrivals hall, useful for families, groups, late arrivals and trips to Laval, the Laurentians or Mont-Tremblant.

Montréal-Trudeau Airport (YUL) is in Dorval, about 15 km (9 miles) west of downtown Montreal. The drive usually takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic, more at rush hour or during roadwork. The 747 bus runs downtown 24 hours a day, and official taxis charge a flat rate to the downtown area.
Yes. The airport stands in Dorval and was called Dorval Airport, then Montréal–Dorval International Airport, until it was renamed Montréal–Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport in 2004. Many Montrealers still call it Dorval. Its code is YUL, and it is the airport for all scheduled passenger flights to Montreal.
Montréal-Trudeau has one terminal building divided into three zones: domestic for flights within Canada, international for flights outside Canada and the United States, and transborder for flights to the US. Domestic and international flights use security checkpoint A, and US flights use checkpoint C. Arriving passengers all exit on the arrivals level.
Yes. Montréal-Trudeau is one of the Canadian airports with US preclearance. Passengers flying to the United States clear US immigration and customs in the transborder zone before boarding, so they land in the US as domestic passengers. Allow extra time for it, and arrive at least three hours before your flight at busy times.
Not yet. The REM light rail station under the airport is under construction and is expected to open in late 2027. Until then, the STM 747 bus is the public transit link to downtown, running 24 hours a day to Lionel-Groulx Métro station, René-Lévesque Boulevard and Berri-UQAM.
The STM 747 bus leaves from the arrivals level 24 hours a day, every day of the year. It runs to Lionel-Groulx Métro station and on to downtown hotels along René-Lévesque Boulevard and Berri-UQAM. Buy a ticket from the machines in the international arrivals area or pay the exact fare in coins on board, as bills are not accepted.
Official taxis wait at Door 23 on the arrivals level, where a dispatcher assigns them. A flat rate applies from the airport to downtown Montreal, with a higher rate overnight, and cards and cash are accepted. Limousines wait at Door 24, and wheelchair-accessible taxis can be requested from the dispatcher.
Most visitors from visa-exempt countries need an approved Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) before boarding a flight to Canada, applied for online. US citizens do not need one, and travelers who need a visa apply for that instead. Check the Government of Canada's requirements for your passport before you book.
Arriving international passengers, including those from the United States, go through Canada Border Services Agency inspection before baggage claim. You can fill in your customs declaration in advance in the ArriveCAN app. Officers may ask about your trip and where you are staying, and waits vary with the number of flights landing.
Air Canada has a hub at YUL and, with Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express, flies the most routes. Air Transat, Porter and WestJet serve Canada, the US and sun destinations, while Air France, British Airways, KLM, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, American, Delta and United add international and US flights.
Mont-Tremblant is in the Laurentians, northwest of Montreal, and the drive from YUL usually takes about 2 hours, longer in winter weather or on busy ski weekends. There is no direct rail link, so travelers go by car, by scheduled coach or by pre-booked transfer.
Yes. The Montréal Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel is the only hotel with direct access to the terminal, reached from the public area on the departures level beside the US departures zone. It offers day-use rooms, and its HotelParc garage has escalator access to the terminal.
ADM runs ValetParc at the entrance, HotelParc inside the Marriott, and EconoParc lots further out linked by a free 24-hour shuttle. The CellParc waiting lot is free for up to 2 hours for drivers meeting arriving passengers. Parking can be reserved online ahead of time.
