TAP Air Portugal is the flag carrier of Portugal, founded on 14 March 1945 and headquartered at Lisbon Airport. It has been a member of Star Alliance since 2005. The airline is owned by the Portuguese State, which in 2026 is running a sale of a minority stake of up to 49.9%; as of October 2026 no buyer had been selected.
Its main hub is Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), where TAP operates from Terminal 1, and Porto (OPO) is its second base. From these two airports TAP serves about 87 destinations in Europe, Brazil, North America and Africa, with a large network to Brazil and connections between the Americas and Europe through Lisbon. Regional flights are sold as TAP Express.
The fleet of about 99 aircraft is mostly Airbus, from A319s to A330-900neos, plus Embraer regional jets for TAP Express.
